“Name it, boss.” He nods confidently and reaches for a mint from my desk, then pops it in his mouth.

“I need you to do some work on Night. I ordered the parts last night to be delivered to your garage later. I need it done as soon as possible, no waiting on this. We have an event this week, and I need her ready to go.”

“You got it. Anything else I can do for you?” Tucker stands from his seat with his hands shoved in his jeans pockets.

“That’s all. I’ll drop the car off tomorrow when the parts are delivered. I’ll lead you out.”

Once back in my office, I check over some emails and enlistment forms. It blows my mind how many people are ready to sign their lives away for this kind of society. Justas I get started, the elevator dings, opening up once again. I wasn’t expecting anyone to be in the office today, so I instinctively reach for my Glock under the desk.

Black wavy hair and big ass Gucci sunglasses round the corner, and my body relaxes. She holds her coffee in one hand and her phone in the other, looking just as pissed off as when I saw her this morning. She marches into her office across from mine, her heels clapping on the tile dramatically the whole way.

She sets her things down, then immediately makes her way to my office. Her hips and arms swing violently with every ounce of attitude in her small body. Pinching the bridge of my nose, I close my eyes with a deep sigh.

“Talk!” She snaps, holding out her wrist to look at her watch as if she’s on a time limit.

“About?” I ask slowly.

“Whatever the fuck your problem is with Kelsey!”

I sit back with my ankle crossed over my knee and my head resting on my fist. “I don’t have a problem. Yet.”

She laughs manically, before storming up to my desk and slapping her hands onto the slick wood surface. “Yetwould be correct, because if you don’t get this shit figured out, you’re going to have a problem with me!” She hisses.

My patience over this bullshit is running thin. I can feel my skin heating as my anger rises, but she’s my sister, and that’s the only thing keeping me from losing my shit. She and Hayden are all I have left.

“Look…” I try to explain.

“Do not pretend you don’t have a thing for her, Ryder! Isee how you look at her. You haven’t looked at a woman like that since Naomi.”

“Damn it, Jessie! Get out!”

She throws her hands up as if she’s giving up, but I know better when I see how her face tightens. “Kelsey isn’ther…”

“Fucking said stop!”

“Let me finish!” She screams. “Stop shoving her away like she’s Naomi. I can train Kelsey. I know she can handle this.”

I have nothing else to say. I stare at her, my body vibrating with anger as she turns around and stops with her hand on the doorframe. “They’re already after her, by the way. So you need to fix it.”

We’ve had an ongoing issue with another society called the Vipers. They’ll do anything to hurt me, and apparently, they have already discovered Kelsey. We must have a leak, and once I find him, he’ll be dead.

“Hey, Ryder?”

“Yeah?” I sigh.

“Can you come look at this and give me your thoughts?”

I read over an application Jessie received. There’s a note stating they’re sending their best man to work for us as a gift. There’s a number attached, so I have Jessie dial it and place the call on speaker. It rings four times before a deep, grave voice answers.

“What do you want?” He asks.

“You tell me.”

There’s a long pause before he replies. “Depends who’s asking.”

“I don’t have time for your fucking games, asshole!” Jessie yells through the phone. We’re all on edge over Kelsey, apparently.

A low, dark chuckle comes through the phone, “I like games.”
