Milo shrugged.
Connor had a feeling there was a lot more to this story, but he was in too good of a mood to do a deep dive into it.
As much as he was enjoying hanging out with the guys and celebrating, he really wanted to be back at the cabin with Lexi and the kids. Next week, they were moving into a rental house in town—one that he had hired a team of inspectors to go in and check out first—and he was ready for them to have a little more space. The kids were having a blast in the cabin, but he was getting tired of making love silently.
Because he loved making his beautiful girl scream.
Soon.
“Uh-oh,” Axel said. “He’s doing it again.”
Connor snapped out of his reverie when everyone laughed. “What? Who’s doing what?”
“You! You’ve got that goofy grin on your face again! Jeez,” Slater explained. “We get it. You and Lexi are happy now that you’re living together.”
“Do I smile like that?” Walker asked with amusement.
“Um, yeah. You do, and it irks me too,” Slater told him.
“I already know I grin like that whenever I think of Maisie, so…” And with that grin, Axel looked at Slater. “Admit it. You’re just jealous because we’re all in very satisfying relationships.”
“I’m not,” Milo said casually. “And that’s fine with me.”
“You’re too uptight for a relationship,” Slater said. “You’re married to your damn job. When was the last time you even went on a date or slept with a woman?”
The fact that he didn’t reply right away gave them all their answer.
“It’s none of your business. I can’t help it that my business is important to me and that I’m…selective with the women I date.”
“Or maybe you’re too uptight to get any woman to date you,” Slater murmured.
“That’s not even a little bit true,” Milo argued. “I’ve dated plenty of women, but most of them are more interested in my bank account and not me.”
Slater started to say something, but Walker sent him a warning look. “Don’t.”
“Fine. Whatever.”
“Anyway, when the right woman comes along,” Milo went on, “I’ll know.”
“Oh, really?” Walker asked, completely amused. “How?”
“Look around, Walker. Connor knew Lexi was the one from the time we were kids. Axel knew Maisie was the one within a matter of days after he met her. And the only reason it took you so long to know with Harlow is because you were fighting it. So really, how hard could it be for me?”
“Just because you’re good at business, doesn’t mean you’re going to be smart when it comes to women,” Axel said. “And you’ll need to actually step away from work to meet someone.”
“You didn’t.”
“Not true. Maisie and I got stranded together here in the storm. I wasn’t working. It was my weekend off.”
“But it was still here at the resort you partially own,” Milo countered lightly. “And Walker may have met Harlow before he came to the resort, but it was the resort and the work here that kept them together.”
“So, what are you saying?” Slater asked. “That you’re going to meet your future bride here at the Lakeview Harbor Resort?”
“It’s a bit more likely than while I’m sitting in my office in Seattle. We have hundreds of guests coming through over the next three months, so who's to say that I can’t meet her?”
“He’s got a point,” Connor said. “But I think we can all agree that it typically happens when you least expect it.”
They all nodded.
