He squeezed my shoulder and nodded his head. “You talking like a grown-ass man, Squared.”
I gave him a slight smile as my dad said, “I’m proud of you. Holla at me later.”
I nodded and shook his hand as he and Uncle Legend left. Carter flopped down on the couch, so I had to assume that hewanted to talk before Noni came out. I sat across from him in my recliner. He gave me a stupid ass grin, so I chuckled.
“Yeah, she put that shit down last night.”
He chuckled and shook his head. We’d been close all our lives, so I knew he was asking for more details just by the look on his face.
“It was more than that, though. It was the freakiest sex we ever had. It was like I could tell she was no longer holding back.” I glanced toward the bedroom and continued in a low voice. “She squirted at least three times. She’s never done that. Aaaaand, she was vocal. Man, I was in heaven.”
He glanced toward the bedroom. “She’s never squirted? Bali does that shit all the time.”
I shook my head. “You can’t squirt if you’re always tense and trying to control shit. She let go of all that. I just hope she don’t pick the shit back up.”
He nodded, then said, “What’s up, Noni?”
“Hey, Carter.”
I turned to see her making her way to us with her white coat already on. I smiled at her, and she smiled back. When she got to me, she fell on my lap and kissed my lips. Carter’s eyebrows lifted. I knew he was shocked. Hell, I was somewhat caught off guard. Had we been alone, I wouldn’t have been.
“Hey, baby.”
“Hey, Noni. You look sexy as hell, baby.”
“It’s the white coat, isn’t it?”
“Umm-hmm. It represents intelligence, hard work, and persistence. All those things are attractive, especially on yo’ pretty ass.”
“A’ight. I’m goin’ find my baby. Y’all ain’t finna be all over each other right in front of me. Iamglad y’all are in a good place.”
“Thanks, Carter. You don’t have to leave, though. I have to get to Beaumont to check on my patient. I just had to show Red some love before I left.” Turning to me, she said, “See you when I get back?”
“Yep. I have to practice for a lil bit, but I should be done by the time you make it back.”
She smiled, then puckered her lips. I kissed them, then gently bit her bottom lip as she pulled away. She gave me an under-eyed look like she was daring me to do more. Before I could, she hopped off my lap and headed to the kitchen to get her purse. I followed behind her and hugged her from behind and kissed her neck. I loved how she was showing me affection without it feeling forced.
“I love you, Noni,” I said close to her ear.
“I love you, too.”
I kissed her neck again, then released her from my embrace. When I rejoined Carter, he said, “Y’all ought to come to dinner at my peeps house tomorrow. Kingsley will be there with Treasure.”
“Word? She’s ready to be in a relationship after everything?”
“I wouldn’t say that, but her allowing him in her space is a step in the right direction. Plus, Cachet is coming home today for a lil while. I can’t wait to see her.”
“If Noni doesn’t have any other plans, we’ll be there. I’m almost sure she doesn’t though.”
He stood from his seat. “A’ight. I told Epic I would meet him at the practice pin by ten. It’s already nine thirty.”
“Okay. I’m about to go and change so I can head out there. You gon’ haze for me, right?”
“Don’t I always?”
I slapped his hand, and said, “I appreciate you, bruh.”
He nodded. “For the record, I’m proud of you.”
