Holy hairballs.Alex was adamngood kisser, and I wasn’t kidding when I said I wanted that to happen again soon. I was more than a little excited to find out what else he was good at.

Please let this day go fast.

As it turned out, the clinic that day was unbearably slow. The few appointments we’d had in the afternoon had been rescheduled or canceled, leaving us with plenty of time to catch up on tasks around the clinic. Melanie, James, and I checked and rechecked inventory, washed the bedding for the kennels, and cleaned every surface we came in contact with.

At about half past two, Alex came in the building with sopping wet hair and a soaked shirt that clung to him in just the way I loved.

Melanie chuckled. “I take it it’s raining again?” she asked.

Alex ran a hand through his hair. “Gonna be pouring here in a minute too.” No sooner had he said that than heavy raindrops began pounding on the roof of the building.

I followed him with my eyes as he headed toward the stairs, unable to help myself.

“How’s his dog doing?” Melanie asked once he was gone.

“Good.”

“Yeah? When was the last time you checked on her?”

“Yesterday, when he brought her over for lunch.”

She turned in her seat, folding her hands over her rounded belly. “That explains why you both were a half hour late getting back. Grace and I thought you werefinallyhaving a hot and heavy make-out session.”

I floundered. “What! No! We weren’t—”

James laughed from across the room. “Like the one this morning in the closet?”

I blushed a furious shade of red and looked away. Everyone knew I was bi, so I hadn’t bothered to hide my attraction to Alex since he’d arrived. At least, around them. I’d kept it in check around the patients’ families.I hoped.

Melanie heaved herself out of the chair, swaying a little as she caught her balance. “I’m going home. There are no more appointments, and if I smell any more of that cleaner, I’m gonna end up giving us a real reason to clean. See you two on Monday.”

James reached for his jacket hanging on the rack by the door. “Do you mind if I leave too?”

I waved him off. “No. Go ahead.”

He glanced at the stairs, then back at me. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do. Actually, on second thought. Please do. I’ll sleep better, knowing at least one of us is getting laid.”

I paused. “I thought you and Christina were still dating?”

He hesitated. “We are, but… it’s been a bit quiet lately, if you know what I mean.”

“Ahh. Gotcha. Well, buy her some flowers or something. Then maybe you won’t have a reason to be jealous.”

He laughed. “Night, Vaughn.”

“See ya.”

As the front door shut, I immediately turned toward the stairs. The light was on as I approached, but it was quiet other than the sound of the floorboards creaking as Alex moved around. I forced myself to slow down but still reached the top of the stairs in record time.

My breath caught when I saw that Alex had stripped out of his wet clothes and was in nothing more than a pair of navy blue boxer briefs.Oh, hellooo hotness. He was too busy digging around the drawer of his dresser to notice me, so I knocked once, dropping my eyes to the floor out of respect.

Alex straightened the moment he saw me. “Oh, hey. I was just getting some dry clothes on.”

“Yeah, I uh… noticed,” I mumbled, instantly feeling the heat in my cheeks.

“You can come in,” he said, digging through the drawer one more time before stopping. “Hey, did I leave my sweatshirt at your house?”
