I nodded. “I’ve stayed there.”

“Really?” he asked. “What’s it like?”

“It’s amazing. One of the most beautiful places I’ve visited.”

“Is there anything I should know before we go?”

I tossed the wrapper of my muffin into the trash and leaned against the counter, sharing the few pieces of the resort I could remember with them. “Oh! And you’ll want to go out on the lake. Take an underwater camera if you have one. Trust me on that one.”

“Oh, my boyfriend probably has some protective gear for his camera, so that won’t be an issue.”

“Boyfriend?” I asked, stunned. Both of their faces fell slightly and I realized my tone was a bit harsh. “Sorry, I just… didn’t expect to run into anyone likemehere,” I said, hoping my meaning was clear.

Preston’s eyes widened. “Oh! You’re gay?”

I nodded.

For some reason that seemed to amuse the woman and she shared a private look with her friend. “Is there any chance you’re single?” she asked with a twinkle in her eye.

“Amelia!” Preston said.

“What! He’s perfect, Pres! Isn’t he?”

Two pairs of eyes appraised me with open curiosity and approval.

“Maybe.Areyou single?” he asked.

I chuckled. “Yes.”

“Would you be interested in meeting someone while you’re here?” Preston asked. “He’s a lot of fun and pretty easy to look at.” As soon as he said that, he turned to his friend and whispered, “Don’t tell Beckett I said that!”

I laughed, unable to help myself. There was something about the pair that relaxed me, though I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what it was. “Maybe. I’m only here a few weeks.”

They shared another look, and the woman snorted. “Trust me, the guy he’s talking about is not looking for anything serious either.”

I glanced between them and felt no judgment for even considering a one-night stand. If anything, I felt encouraged to go for it. And why the hell not? Might as well have a little fun while I’m here. “Yeah, okay, sure.”
