“Oh, fuck, my stomach can’t take this,” I complained through fits of barely controlled snickers.
Four older women were walking toward us, each with a map in their hands.
“You’re going to get us in trouble!” Reyes sputtered.
“Me? I didn’t do anything! It’s the huge dildos!”
That made Reyes laugh all over again. He nearly lost his balance when his hand slipped from the ledge, but I slid my arms around his waist to steady him. Rey’s laughter quickly faded, though the joy in his eyes continued to shine brightly. He kissed me again, slower and with more meaning.
We broke apart when we heard snickering to our right. Four pairs of heavily shadowed eyes were watching us with eager expressions. Their lipstick-covered lips were turned up in amused, almost hopeful smiles.
“Well! Don’t stop on our account,” one of them said.
Reyes chuckled, recovering first. “We were just remembering our first date.” He glanced at me and winked. “Jake here took me to an aquarium and nearly slipped into the pen with the seals.”
All four women glanced at the statues, then back at us, fighting back their own giggles. I wanted to pinch Rey for his lie, but he was already pulling out his phone. He tapped at it to clear a few missed notifications.
“Would you mind taking a picture for us?”
He showed them which button to push on the screen before returning to my side.
“I’m pretty sure it wasyouwho slid intomypen on that date,” I muttered in a low voice.
Reyes snorted and kissed me one more time before draping an arm around my waist. We smiled as the woman took at least a half dozen photos, holding Rey’s phone in various angles.
After retrieving his phone, Rey thanked them before we continued on. Rey laced our fingers together as we walked, casting me another one of his sexy crooked smiles. It felt so damn good, so right to be here with him, especially after the horrors of the day before. I didn’t want it to end.
As our tour came to an end and we returned to my truck, Rey turned me until my back was to the door and slanted his lips over mine. I opened for him immediately, welcoming his embrace like the sun breaking through on a cloudy day. We were both grinning like high schoolers when we finally broke apart.
“This was fun,” he said softly.
“Which part? The kissing or the dildos?”
“All of it.” His eyes twinkled with humor.
“Yeah. It’s not every day we get to see giant sex toys displayed as art.”
He shook his head in amusement. “Fuck, how did those even get approved? I haven’t laughed that hard since college,” Rey admitted. I didn’t think Rey could get any more beautiful than the day I’d met him, but with those faint laugh lines around his eyes, I realized I was wrong.
I slipped a hand into his back pocket, enjoying the feel of his body next to mine.
“Thanks for being with me today,” I said.
“Well, you’re kind of an addiction,mi estrella.It’s getting hard not to be around you,” he said before sealing his lips over mine one last time. “Anyway, come on, Officer. Dinner’s on me tonight.”
