Nothing could have felt more right in that moment, more beautiful. I had a man I loved with my entire heart standing next to me, a son in my arms, and two friends who were like brothers to me only a few feet away. And that wasn’t where my blessings stopped. I also had friends like Brad and Isaac, who would give the shirts off their back if I needed it, and a town that truly felt like home. I hadn’t expected any of this when I moved to Reedsport, and the sad truth was that if I had known, I likely wouldn’t have come. For so long, I believed I didn’t want or need love and family in my life, but I knew now how twisted in fear that belief was. Not only that, but it kept me from truly living in the moment, holding me back from the things I deserved.
Against all odds, I’d found my way here. Fate used my spur-of-the-moment decision to follow Beckett as a chance to not only open my eyes but hand me a future I never knew I wanted, and I couldn’t be more thankful. Maybe Reyes was right. Maybe I was his lucky star and he was mine. Both him and Harrison. I knew now this is exactly where I belonged. In Reedsport, with these people who were my family.
I tugged Reyes to me and kissed him before hugging Harrison again. “Come on, Sport. I know one girl who’d love to play with you for a bit before we go.”
Lady barked once, knowing I was talking about her.
“Can we get a dog?” Harrison asked.
Reyes and I looked at each other and burst out laughing. I sent him another“I told you so”look, before ruffling my son’s hair.
“Yeah, Harris, I think we can get you a dog.”
