After spitting on his hard cock and a couple of strokes, he lined himself up. “Do it,” I begged. He shoved himself into me, not waiting for me to adjust, making me cry out and want more all at the same time. Once he was in, he slowly pulsed in and out of me, going deeper with each stroke.

“I’ve wanted you from the first time I tasted your blood, even though I didn’t want to admit it. I wish I was stronger, but you make me weak. From now on, you will only want me, and I will only want you. You’ll have my heart and every part of me. You are mine,” he whispered.

My back arched as I fought for the control I’d lost as soon as he touched me. “You are mine,” I yelled as I came, unable to hold back. His fangs sank into the space between my neck and shoulder as he followed and my orgasm washed through us both in waves that went on and on.

“I will always be yours,” he murmured and collapsed on the bed next to me while we both panted. Reaching for his hand, I wove our fingers together and held it against my chest. He gasped before pressing his ear over my heart. “Oh, it’s been so long.”

“What is it?” I whispered and stroked his hair.

“Your heart. I missed the sound of a beating heart.” He took a deep breath and relaxed onto me, and for the life of me, I couldn’t think of a time when I’d felt so much contentment

“I don’t understand how you could be alive but have no heartbeat,” I said, and he leaned up enough to take my hand and press it to his chest.

“Listen for yourself,” he said.

Leaning against him, I listened and listened some more. But there was no familiar thrum of life echoing through his chest. Yet here he was, as vital and aliveas me. “You’re amazing,” I whispered before kissing him.

“Make me a promise.”

“Anything.”

“Never forget what I am. The bond we have is strong. But I’m a monster, and if I choose, I could drink you dry before snapping your neck. You can never let your guard down with me.” He brushed his thumb gently across my cheek, softening the blow of his words. But it didn’t matter.

“I’m yours to do with as you choose. I trust you.”

“Don’t,” he whispered. For a moment, we locked eyes and both tried to send a silent message to the other but even if it worked at times, it wasn’t working now. I wanted him to know that on some strange level, I knew he couldn’t kill me. No matter how many times he insisted he could. It was part of the bond, and he wasn’t capable of breaking it. I also knew he was everything to me, and I’d die protecting him if I needed to. Just imagining betraying him in any way made me flinch. “What is it?”

“Let’s shower,” I said, not ready to admit I knew my ancestor was not his mate. If he had been, he couldn’t have betrayed Marlon, and I’d spend my last breath showing him how strong our bond was.

What the fuck had I gotten myself into? Mated to another fucking human and feeling that bond like I’d never been mated before. The pull to him was so strong I could hardly bear him leaving the bedroom to turn on the shower. It was never this way before, and no matter how much I didn’t want to admit it, the memory of my first mate faded with every moment.

“Hey, what are you doing?” Blake asked as he stuck his head through the bedroom doorway. “The shower’s ready.”

As soon as our eyes met, I wanted him like I’d never wanted another, and like I hadn’t just had him. He was everything, and I would do anything he asked and tear apart anyone who threatened him. Including his idiot friend. I nodded and stood behind him while he opened the door to the shower. “The things you make me feel—” I wrapped my arm around him and kissed his shoulder.

“I know. I feel it too,” he said, and stepped under the warm water. “Did you have a shower, you know, before?” He turned then and leaned back to wet his hair under the stream of water, making his body bow and thrusting his cock out at me.

“Not like this. Mostly we bathed in the creek that used to run out behind the barn,” I said, and the memory of it made me smile. Life was so different then, and even though I knew I’d still be alive to see the future, it was very different to see the change from the day I was buried until now.

Heshivered and switched places with me, so I was now under the water. “We’re spoiled. I never did like camping all that much because of things like that. Guess I’m not much for roughing it,” Blake said and poured some soap from a bottle into his hand before reaching up and working it through my hair. “You’re so thin. Does eating food help you like drinking blood?”

My eyes opened and locked with his, and I was again amazed how easily he accepted me and what I am. “I can eat human food, but it doesn’t help me like blood does, and the way I look will never change. I’m frozen in time,” I said and watched for his reaction. He traced his hand down my stomach, and my cock started to take notice again.

“You’re lean but muscular. I like it,” he said before meeting my eyes again. “What a strange life, right?” His green eyes were bright and happy, and I realized I was smiling back at him. What was it with this man that he could make me feel so much with nothing more than a look?

“I like it too,” I said and kissed him. “I like it a lot.” We stayed under the water until finally Blake decided we’d use all the hot water if we stayed much longer.

“Today I work, so you’ll be here alone. Is that a problem?” Blake asked as he roughed up his hair with a towel.

“You left me alone yesterday.”

“That was before,” he said and rummaged in a drawer for some underthings.

“What do you mean?” He tossed me something to put on, but I sat on the bed and watched him instead of getting dressed.
