“Nah, I need you, baby girl, just not like you think.” His eyes went straight to my lap and I laughed.
“I hope I’m more than just sex.”
“Fuck hope, hope don’t do shit for you but get your pressure up. Your ass better know.”
“I do.”
“You sure about that?”
“Most definitely.”
“Good, ’cause, if not I was about to pull over and help you make up your mind.”
“How is sex going to convince me I’m more than just sex to you?”
I frowned and he laughed.
“’Cause the way I’ll have you screaming my name will bring out every emotion you could possibly feel, and you’ll know this shit is deeper than the way I make you cum.”
“Must you be so nasty?”
“Shit yeah ’cause you like it that way. You fucking with a real one, Madeline. You might as well get used to that.”
I had no words for that, but it was the truth.
“So, do I get to meet your mom?”
Carlos glanced at me for a minute then focused on the road again.
“We’re not there yet,” he said, as if he didn’t just gut punch me with his words. “And before you go getting all in your feelings, it’s not what you think. My mom is old school as fuck. If I’m bringing someone to meet her I better be serious about them. We’re on the right path, we just still got a ways to go, and before you ask, no. The answer is no.”
“No to what?”
He smirked at me and shook his head. “No other women I fuck with have ever met my mom. When I say she’s old school, I mean it. When I take you to meet her, first thing she’s gonna do before she even says hello is look at your damn hand expecting to see a ring. In her eyes, if I’m bringing you around it’s some serious shit. So I don’t take that lightly.”
I was okay with that. Especially if it meant I could possibly be the first one. He did say not thereyet, which meant he was at least considering it. That was good enough for now.
“Damn Troop, let her ass breathe,” Carlos said, causing all of us to laugh because it was evident they were making up for lost time. I was just happy my girl was happy again.
The two weeks he acted a fool made me want to cut him, but Carlos told me to stay out of it.
“She can breathe just fine, so mind your gotdamn business.” Trooper paid Carlos no mind and continued moving his hands across Sophie’s body while he kissed her neck.
“Trooper, be nice,” Sophie said, pushing him off of her, but he pulled her closer.
“Shit, I am being nice. I could have ended it with kiss my ass, but I didn’t.” Trooper smirked and Sophie elbowed him.
“How are y’all even friends? All you do is talk trash to each other,” I said, looking up at Carlos from where my head rested in his lap.
“That’s exactly how we’re friends by saying whatever the fuck is on our minds. That’s my peoples and if I can’t be real with him why the fuck be down in the first place?” Trooper said, like he meant every word and it just made sense.
“Hell yeah. When his ass is tripping, I tell him. Y’all women be on some extra shit when you got issues. Whispering and talking shit behind each other’s back. When Troop is fucking up, I let him know before it gets out of hand. That’s some grown man shit.”
“Why I gotta be the one who’s fucking up?” Trooper smiled and Sophie shot him a look that quickly got him in check. He laughed and kissed her cheek. “But real shit, he’s right. Y’all will hold shit in and be hating on your closest friends then blow up because she wore the same color as you to an event or something, when it really don’t have shit to do with that. We just keep it one hundred twenty-four-seven so it never gets to that.”
I sucked my teeth and looked over at Trooper. “No, men just don’t care about anything.”
“We do, just not about dumb shit like why she looking at me like that or why she text you back and didn’t text me back.”
