“Fine, but if you hit me, I’m telling my father,” I said, looking him right in the eyes.
He grinned then his expression turned cold. “You know I’ll beat his ass too. I ain’t scared of Story, Sophie. I mean that.”
“I hate you,” I said through a laugh right before he grabbed my arms and pulled me to my feet.
“Stop saying that shit, even as a joke. I take that shit to heart and you should too,” he said, pressing my body against his.
“Fine, I really don’t like you sometimes.”
“You love me though, right?”
“Maybe,” I said with a grin.
“Sophie,” he barked and I laughed.
“Yes, I love you, now let me go. I’m still mad and will be for a while.”
“Nah, fuck that. You got one day to be mad and half that shit is over. By tonight, I’m paying your ass back for slapping me.”
Trooper let me go and walked off. The sad thing was he was serious and I was actually looking forward to it.
Chapter 60
Trooper
“Ineed to tell you something before we get off the plane.” I sat in front of Sophie on the edge of my seat, leaning forward with my elbows propped on my knees, fingers intertwined while my chin rested on top.
I kept my eyes on her as I studied her face to try and read her. She was nervous, but that was to be expected with everything that had happened in the past forty-eight hours.
“Should I be worried?”
My expression didn’t change, but I kept my voice calm while I answered. “To be perfectly honest, I don’t give a fuck about the information I’m about to tell you one way or another, but I know you do. So listen carefully. However you need to react, let it flow and get that shit out of your system. Because when we leave this plane, you leave that shit right here.”
“Trooper, just tell me.”
Now she looked panicked. She had been in Jamaica for a week, which meant she had no connection to anything going on back in The States. Mostly that William and Lincoln were dead. I wanted to be the one who told her, because regardless of what William and Lincoln had done to her, there was a possibility she would still have feelings about it.
“William and Lincoln are dead,” I said coolly and waited.
Her mouth opened and closed a few times before I actually heard her voice.
“Did you do it?”
Her voice was so low I barely understood what she asked.
“No, your father did.” I paused and looked her right in the eyes so there would be no mistaking the truth behind what I was about to say next. “But I would have and that goes for anyone who is a threat to you or our child.”
Her eyes were still on me, but she hadn’t said anything yet.
“Sophie, say what’s on your mind.”
“I’m glad. Is that a bad thing?” she asked with a seriousness that almost made me smile, but I kept my feelings contained.
“No, it’s not a bad thing. They both did some fuck shit to you and it’s okay for you to want them to get what they deserve. But with that being said, I need you to leave that to me. Don’t change who you are because that boogie ass, innocent Sophie who didn’t know shit about the streets is the Sophie I fell in love with. That’s the Sophie who will be the mother of my child and one day my wife. Let me be me and you stay who you are. I’ll get my hands dirty for you. I make you that promise right here, right now, and you can depend on that for as long as I got air in my lungs.”
Seconds later, Sophie had a grin on her face. “Mother of your child and your wife?”
“Yo, I just told you I’m dropping bodies for you because I love you that much, and all you got out of that was the mother of my child and wife?” I chuckled at her goofy ass grin.
