“Sorry to disappoint. He’s a little tied up at the moment courtesy of me, so I don’t think he’ll make it. I just killed yourgotdamn son. You want me, come get me. I’ll be waiting,” I said with a menacing grin before I tossed the phone on the floor and left William’s place.
It wouldn’t be long before I was face to face with Harold, but trust, I would be the last man standing.
“The story of the hour is that business mogul William Prescott, founder and owner of The Prescott Agency, was found murdered along with his protégé Lincoln Olsen. The two were found gunned down in a house that belonged to a woman whose identity is being kept secret. Sources say Prescott had been having an affair with the woman for years. There are currently no leads and the family has been quiet about the tragedy. Alana and Sophie Prescott haven’t been present, and sources close to the family say Prescott and his wife had been having issues, which accounts for his wife and daughter’s absence. We will keep you updated as we gain more information, but for now, it has been confirmed that William Prescott and Lincoln Olsen were both found dead a few hours ago.”
I muted the volume on the TV and looked at Trooper, who spoke right away. “No leads?”
“They may not know, but Harold does. I called his ass and told him.”
“You called him?”
“Hell yeah. No sense in prolonging the inevitable. I’m just as ready to end this shit as you are. Why keep playing with his ass?”
Trooper chuckled and shook his head. “How long you think?”
“No idea. He’s getting his shit in order right now. Unlike me, he can’t just walk up on someone and pull the trigger. He pays people to do it for him, but this one, he’ll want to handle personally. I killed his son and called to tell him.”
“It would be nothing for him to just send the feds to pick you up.”
“You’re right, but he won’t.”
Trooper’s hand moved across his head before he looked me right in the eyes. “I think I fucked up.”
That immediately got my attention.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“The one person I thought I had a handle on played me. She’s the one running all this shit.”
“Willis?”
“Yeah, right before I killed Rogers, he acted like I was a gotdamn priest and he was having a confession hour. He mentioned we had it all wrong, that the person heading all this shit was Willis.”
“So, take care of her.”
“That’s the problem. I don’t know where the fuck she is. I’ve been watching her place and she hasn’t returned. That shit has got me nervous as fuck. If I can’t track her moves, she might be tracking mine. What if she knows where they are?”
“Is that a possibility?”
“Shit, could be. I got my man down there looking after them, and I talk to Sophie on the regular, but that don’t mean she ain’t hanging in the shadows. If she’s the one really pushing this shit, she wants Sophie and Alana. Having her hands on them will help her manipulate us. She doesn’t know you’re about to murk Harold, so as far as she’s concerned, her shit is solid and she’s likely trying to secure all the players. As of now, that’s all of us, including Sophie and her mother.”
“Then we go get them.”
“What about Harold?” Trooper looked at me concerned.
Having him coming for me did complicate things, but we’d have to deal with that. Last thing I wanted was for a dirty fed to get their hands on Sophie or Alana. Using them would be theonly way to force the issue with me and Trooper. I’d do anything for Lanni, the same way he’d do anything for Sophie.
If she was smart, she knew that, which was a problem.
“Right now, we need to bring them home. We can’t risk her getting to them before we do.”
Nodding to agree, Trooper pulled out his phone to make a call. I did the same. It was time to bring the girls home and we’d deal with Prescott when the time came.
Chapter 57
Trooper
“Yo, I swear on everything, if the money wasn’t so gotdamn good, I’d be retiring after all this bullshit we been dealing with,” Los said randomly while inhaling from his blunt.
