I laughed to agree. I knew exactly what that meant. Why torture ourselves with discussion about something we couldn’t have at the moment? Right now, I would relax and enjoy time with my girl. I’d save the rest for my FaceTime later with Carlos.

Chapter 54

Story

“We need a plan. This shit is really getting complicated and there are too many people connected. We can’t kill the entire gotdamn city to get to one man,” Trooper released before his eyes were on Los then back on me.

He was frustrated, for good reason.

“Shit, we can if we have to. I’m not trying to let them fuck up a good thing just because somebody’s got a hard on for Prescott. Hell, his old ass shouldn’t even be relevant anymore any gotdamn way.”

“He’s not. His money and power is, but the second he stops breathing, all of that shit goes away,” Trooper said.

“You’re right and we need to make things happen. I don’t really give a fuck about any of it, but Lanni and Sophie are stuck right in the middle. If I have to walk up to that muthafucker in broad daylight surrounded by cops, press my gun to his temple and squeeze the trigger, I will. I’ll go back for them and I mean it.”

Trooper and Los nodded in understanding.

“That’s not an option though, so we’ll figure this shit out in a way that we all walk,” Los said.

“Really, there’s only one way, and that’s to eliminate the problem. I’m ready to get this shit over with so I can bring my baby home.”

I rubbed my chin and smiled at him. Trooper had definitely grown up and I respected him for that.

“Your baby or mine?” I said with a smug grin.

He shot me a look. “No disrespect, but if you talking about Alana, you can claim that. But if you’re referencing Sophie, that’s all me. You’re her father, but I’m her man, and she’s my responsibility. You know I love you like your blood is running through my veins, but that’s all me and I ain’t compromising on that.”

“Damn, Troop. You taking it there? Shit just got deep,” Los said and chuckled.

I nodded out of respect. What more could I ask for? If he was ready to step to me, I had no doubt Sophie was in good hands.

“As long as you’re on your shit that will never be an issue.”

Trooper smirked and nodded. “No doubt, but you already knew that. Now, can we figure out how to shed some blood so I can bring her ass home? She ’bout to make me fly to Jamaica to handle some things just to shut her ass up for a minute.”

“Ay, we cool, but that’s just something I don’t want to think about.”

Trooper chuckled. “My bad, Story. I forget sometimes, but I still mean that shit regardless.”

“Yo, you dumb as fuck for that, Troop,” Los said. “But I got a question. Which one of y’all bodying William?”

“Me,” Trooper and I both answered at the same time then looked at each other.

Los laughed and leaned back. “The fuck y’all gon’ do? Pull straws?”

Trooper’s hand moved down his face and he looked me right in the eyes. He had his issues with William, all of them stemmingfrom what he had done to Sophie, but this had been a long time coming for me. He knew, and from the look he gave me, he understood and respected me enough to give me that.

“You killing him first or Harold?” he said, breaking the silence.

A smirk crossed my face. “William. The second Harold gets word, he’ll know I did it and come to me.”

“So Prescott and his son both disappear, then what? You know they’re coming for you,” Los said, looking right at me.

“No body, no case. If they can’t prove shit, they can’t do shit. I hate the way it all played out, but I met with the lawyer Lanni hired and there ain’t shit they can do to send me back unless they create a new charge. She made sure of that. I don’t plan on giving them anything, which means we don’t fuck up.”

“Allen, Willis, and Rogers need to disappear too. They can assume all they want, but if they can’t prove shit then we walk,” Trooper added.

“Exactly, but let’s be clear. We’re killing feds. That’s some serious shit.” Los looked at me and Trooper both.
