“I’ve always thought you’d be good together,” she says after a short pause.
“For real?”
“Totally. I think you balance each other well.”
I think of how much his support and kindness has helped me. “I didn’t think he ever noticed me as more than his best friend’s sister.”
“He always looks at you whenever you’re not paying attention.”
She raises her brows when my eyes snap to her. There’s no way that’s true.
She must sense my disbelief because she adds, “I have video from the wedding to prove it if you don’t believe me. In almost every candid clip, his eyes are on you whether he’s aware of it or not, sweetie.”
I find Cole on the ice. He’s clashing with the offensive player he marked. He’s a force to be reckoned with.
And when the play ends, he glances toward the stands. Is he looking for me?
I wave and he lifts his gloved hand with a crooked smile that makes my heart skip a beat.
My eyes don’t leave him for the rest of the game.
BE MY BOOK BOYFRIEND
EVE

It’s harderto imagine Cole as the AHL player persona I made up for him on the fly with his voice in my ears. This isn’t the first time we’ve been on the phone, but it makes everything more intense. He told me earlier he had something fun planned for tonight while he’s on the road with the team for playoffs.
“How’s the hotel room?” I’m unsure how to talk normally to him when we do this even though we’re friends.
“Four walls. A bed. Nice view of an air conditioning unit,” he deadpans. “Are you in bed?”
“Technically I’m on top of it. Not under the sheets.”
“Is that right? What are you wearing?” I can hear his smirk.
I pluck at the hem of my old Heston U shirt. “Nothing at all, because I’m a seductress who lounges around naked like a queen.”
“I’d better get on my knees then.”
I wish I could experience his mouth devouring me for real. The way he describes it drives me wild every time.
“Remember the audiobook you were reading?”
My cheeks heat at the memory of what point I was at when he interrupted. “Yes.”
“Play it.”
“You want to listen to a romance book right now? I thought we were going to?—”
“We’re going to listen together,” he corrects. “And act it out.”
Words tangle on my tongue as I try to say too many responses at once. “Okay. That broke my brain.”
He gives a soft, seductive chuckle that makes me press my thighs together. “In a good way?”
