Before we go out back to join everyone else for the barbeque, Luck has one last request. “I try to keep that separate from here.” He gestures to the clubhouse. “Don’t need every degenerate fucker I know showing up to one of my classes thinking it’s easy pickings.”

Blaise chuckles. “I hear what you’re saying. I won’t mention it.”

It’s hard not to like the guy. I feel bad for judging him last night. Thinking he was trying to pick up my sister, when in reality he was probably sitting with us to protect us. He swings his gaze my way and gives me a brief smile. “Your sister knows, though. So you can talk about it with her if you want to.”

I’m not sure what to do with that information, so I just nod.

After Luck leaves, Blaise chuckles and leans over to whisper in my ear. “I guess kinkiness runs in the River girls’ blood.”

“Ew.” I smack his chest. “Gross.”

“Honestly, he probably just wanted you to know so you’d feel more comfortable with him.” He cocks his head to the side. “Are you okay with that?”

“Sure. As long as you don’t mind.”

“Hell no.” He opens his mouth to say something else when his phone buzzes.

“Fuck.” He pulls the phone out, staring at it for a second before answering.

“What are you talking about?” He stares at the front door.

Something’s off. Blaise takes my hand and pulls me toward our room. “Is he okay? Let me talk to him. You serious?”

We stop at the door to our room, and Blaise hands me the key. “All right. We’re leaving now.”

He disconnects and stares at the phone for a minute. “Santa says Red Storm rolled up and shot at our clubhouse.”

“What? Oh my God.”

“He said my dad got shot, and they’re calling our doctor in. We need to go.”

“Of course. Is your dad okay?” I grab my backpack, scoop up my few pieces of clothing scattered around, and slip into my boots and jacket.

“I don’t know. He wasn’t clear.”

“Call him.”

He dials and gestures for me to open the door. We’re storming down the hall when he snarls and shoves the phone in his pocket. “He’s not answering.”

“Where ya off to, Blaise?” Romeo asks when we enter the main room.

“Got a call from one of my guys. Trouble at our clubhouse. I gotta go.”

Romeo’s attitude shifts from lazy-Sunday afternoon to scary MC President on alert. “Shit. You need back up?”

“I’m not sure.”

“Give me a minute to round up my guys.” Romeo takes in Blaise’s anxious expression. “Go ahead. We’ll be right behind you.”

“Thanks.”

“Do you want to try calling again?” I ask before getting on the back of Blaise’s bike.

“No, it’ll just waste time.”

“Do you know which hospital they took him to?”

Blaise gives me a strange look. “Babe, unless it’s real bad, we have a guy who will treat him at the clubhouse. No hospital. Especially not for a gunshot.”
