My gaze strays to Kadence again. “Can’t believe Kady has a sister.”
“Yeah, it shocked Karina, too.”
“Her fuckin’ dad’s a piece of work. Big pussy, though. Surprised he got two women to fuck him.”
Dante roars with laughter and slaps my shoulder. “He’s a fuckin’ fool.”
“Treated Kady and her mom like shit from what I remember.”
“Yeah?” Dante glances at his girl. “Karina’s got it in her head that her dad liked Kadence better or some shit.”
“Fuck, no. Not from what I saw. He’d go months without seeing her.”
That seems to be new information to Dante. Not sure why it matters, but I don’t want to prod him for more answers. Not about Mr. Rivers, anyway.
Remembering the conversation I had with Kadence, I lean in closer to Dante. “How did Karina find out about her sister?”
“Romeo.” He rolls his eyes. “Club had an…internal matter.”
Iron Bulls’ business. Dante sure as shit ain’t gonna share that with me. “Anyone else know who would’ve wanted to blackmail the girls?”
Dante’s face goes blank. “What’re you talking about?”
I sigh and run my hands through my hair. This has nothing to do with my club’s business. I glance at the girls again. “Couple months ago, someone was hassling Kady. Sending her texts saying they knew stuff about her. Finally, the prick sent her a picture of Karina and said he’d take her to meet her sister.”
The whole time I’m speaking, Dante’s face gets tighter and tighter until I think he might fucking explode, leaving bits of angry biker all over the place.
His gaze quickly sweeps the room. “Hemi,” he says in a low voice.
“Who the fuck is that?”
“Probate. Hadn’t been patched-in long. Karina’s ex.” He tilts his head. “First-boyfriend type thing. When she and I hooked up, he flipped the fuck out.” His fists clench, making me wonder if this Hemi kid is even still alive. “He fuckin’ kidnapped her.”
“Jesus Christ.”
“Yeah. Tried to trick her. She’s smart, though. Knew something was up. Called me and at least I had a clue where to start looking for her.”
“When was this?”
He gives me the date and it all adds up. “Shit.”
“You think he was the one harassing your girl?”
“Sounds like it.”
“I’m sure the little prick thought it was a way for him to play the hero and win her back. Did his best to poison her against me.”
“Where is he now?”
“You tell me?”
The question stops me. “I don’t know. I never met him. Kady didn’t, either.”
He searches my face for a few seconds, but my expression doesn’t change.
“We think he might be takin’ shelter with Red Storm. Someone’s been hiding his disloyal ass.”
Hard to tell if Dante’s decided he trusts me or if he’s trying to play me.
