“Hey.” I reach out and grab her hand. “I know you didn’t.”

“You believe me?”

What did I ever do to make her think I wouldn’t believe her?

“Yeah, baby. I trust you.” I also know she’s not fucking stupid. And stealing from a rival MC would be about the stupidest thing a person could do.

“What are they claiming I stole?”

“You really don’t want to know.”

She cocks her head, staring me down, trying to force me into giving up the information with the power of her pleading eyes.

Not happening.

“It’s better you don’t know. Honest, Kady.”

“Okay.”

My already overinflated ego swells when she backs off. “I know you didn’t take anything. My dad knows it. Hell, theyknow it. They’re just using it as an excuse to shake me down for money.” The more I think about it, the more it seems it’s not only money they’re after. It’s a desperate play for Deacon to attempt over a couple thousand dollars.

“Assholes,” she grumbles, and I agree. “You’re not going to give it to them, are you?”

I run my hands through my hair. Even after church, my father and I had gone back and forth. We both know it’s bullshit. While we want to keep peace in the area, we also can’t give in to some bitch MC’s demands. Sets a bad precedent. Thankfully, we had the support from the whole club to butt heads with Red Storm. “It’s a precarious situation, babe. Nothing you need to worry about.”

“Except, I can’t leave the house.”

“Except for that.”

She glances down. “I’m sorry for causing you so much trouble,” she says softly.

This is unusual behavior for Kadence, but I can’t say I don’t prefer it. As much as I enjoy all her bitchy dramatics, there are times she needs to take shit seriously and follow orders. Makes it easier for me to fight for her when my club tries to tell me to cut her loose. Which is something I expect to happen very soon.

“You’re not causing me trouble.”

She responds with an exasperated huff. “If I had just kept my mouth shut when Ivy baited me the other night, none of this would’ve happened.”

“Yeah, but then we wouldn’t have had the last few days together.”

Her face softens. “A few days with me is really worth all this trouble?”

“Yes, Kadence. You’re worth all the trouble in the world.”

You’re worth allthe trouble in the world.

No one in my life has ever made me feel that way. Not my mother, who claimed I hindered her from finding a “good husband.” Not my father, whom I barely ever saw growing up.

I know I have a temper. I act before I think more than I care to admit. Blaise has always taken it in stride.

How’d I thank him?

By stabbing him.

Shit.

Worse, I made him feel like I didn’t trust him, when the truth is, theonlyplace I’ve ever felt safe is in his arms.

And now I’ve also gotten not only him, but his entire club into a dispute with one of their rivals. To get me out of trouble he lied and told the Red Storm’s president I was his ol’ lady.
