What an ass. He won't come see his girlfriend because he's worried about his precious car? Why the hell is she dating this guy?
"So why were you crying just now?" I ask.
"Because he's letting Tamara go with him and his friends to the game. I'm sure she'll go to the party with him too. And he seemed excited about it. He didn't seem that way about me going with him. It's almost like he was discouraging me from going. But maybe I'm reading too much into it. He always says I overreact, and maybe I am. I know he's not trying to hurt me, but sometimes he does without realizing it."
He realizes it. He just doesn't care.
"Could you do something else Friday night?"
"I could, but I don't know what I'd do. All my friends will be at the game Friday."
"So go to the one here. I know the team, and trust me, it'll be a good game. The defense is fucking amazing, one guy in particular."
She smiles. "It would be fun to see him play."
"Him?Who are we talking about here?"
She shoves my shoulder. "You, obviously. People say you're our best player."
"See for yourself. Go to the game on Friday."
"I'd have to go by myself."
"Have Eve go with you."
"She's not into sports."
"Then find someone else to go with. It's better than sitting at home all night."
"I'll think about it."
Jacob comes out of his room, wearing basketball shorts and no shirt.
"You're still here?" he says to Brook.
"Yeah, but I should get going." She stands up.
"What do you need?" I ask him.
"I was just getting something to eat."
"Go put a shirt on. We have company."
"I didn't know she was here," he says, going back to his room.
Brook laughs. "I think he wants me to leave."
"He was just surprised to see you. Usually people are in a hurry to get out of here. Me included."
"It's not that bad," she says, looking around.
"Liar."
She smiles as we walk to the door. "See you tomorrow."
I open the door and notice it's dark out.
"I didn't realize it was so late. I'll walk you to the bus stop. Let me grab my keys." I get them from the counter and meet her outside.
