"Navy," Honey whispered. I shook my head.
Choyce sagged forward in the chair, shoulders shaking. Blood traced the thin line going across her neck. She didn't cry or reach to see how deep I cut. She just sat there like she finally understood the cost of wanting a man who ran with demons.
"I didn't know," she whispered.
I laughed once, short and broken.
"Why would you?" I asked hoarsely, dragging a hand down my face. Wetness smeared across my skin before I realized I had blood on my hands.
"I loved him," I said to no one in particular, "enough to abort pieces of myself so he could survive."
The words sounded wrong when spoken out loud.
Choyce rose on unsteady legs. I reached for the knife, unsure of her next move.
"We're done," Honey muttered, already reaching for my hand. I hesitated, then set the knife down and let Honey guide me out of the house.
"Navy."
I turned. Choyce stood at the threshold.
"He doesn't need peace," she softly voiced. "He needs a woman who won't set herself on fire to keep him warm."
"That bitch," Honey mumbled as Choyce closed the door.
I sank into the passenger seat and pulled down the visor. Beneath my eyes, a smeared mix of tears and blood stared back at me. I slammed the visor shut, pissed that I'd lost control.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Honey asked once she climbed in.
"Just take me home," I mumbled.
I leaned my head against the window and closed my eyes, silently mourning the children who never got to exist.
Honor Gravehart
I pulledinto the circular driveway and cut the engine. Other than my car, one was parked in plain view, another was tucked just before the turn onto Lucian's property. The car in plain view belonged to Talon. His being here really wasn't an issue for me as long as Lucian didn't force my hand. Whoever sat watching shit posed a problem. I stepped out with my gun already in my hand. I screwed on the suppressor and checked the magazine. I moved toward the back of the property and cut through the rear gate. I circled around until I came back around to the front.
Slow. Controlled. Eyes up.
The car sat idle in the tuck. I approached from the blind side, stopping just short of the driver's door. I tapped the barrel of my gun against the window. The window rolled down, and I raised my gun the moment there was room.
"The fuck you doing out here?" I grumbled, seeing it was Kage.
"Doing a favor for Choyce," he answered, his eyes hard with disdain.
I let out a humorless chuckle.
"I said some funny?" he snarled.
"It's funny you call orders a favor." I smirked. "Choyce is your boss, nigga. You do what she says whether you want to or not."
"That might be how you move with Lucian," he calmly shot back, "but I ain't ever been nobody's bitch."
"Fuck you say?" I growled, shifting the gun to his temple.
"You heard me." He smirked.
"I did. So, what's stopping me from murkin' you right here?"
