“Hey…hello, are you there?” asked Sawyer. “What’s on for today?”

Shaking his head slightly to clear the memories from his mind, Alex replied, “Today is a relaxation day. Since I spent the last two days driving, I planned on spending the day at the beach.”

“Sounds great…let me put this inside. Do you want me to drive, or would you rather do it?”

Grateful his mate had given him a choice, Alex said, “If you don’t mind, I’ll drive.”

“Not at all. Gimme a few minutes to change, okay?”

Waving his hand at the motorhome, Alex replied, “Go ahead…I’ll be right here.”

Giving his mate one of his trademark grins, Sawyer stood before grabbing the dishes and turning to head for his motorhome.

Alex stared at Sawyer’s ass, admiring the flexing muscles as his mate opened the door and climbed the stairs. Blocked from seeing anything more when the doorclosed, a low moan escaped from his throat as he tried to reign in his lust. It was something he’d never felt before. Wondering if the feeling had something to do with being fated mates, Alex cursed himself again for not paying more attention to his classmates’ whisperings after the lights went out. But in all fairness, he never expected to have a mate…especially because he was so odd. His mind flitted back to Sawyer, wondering if his mate knew what he was…and if he didn’t…should I tell him? And what happens when I do…will he reject me then? So maybe I should tell him right away so if he doesn’t want me, I can just leave and go to Palm Springs like I planned to.

NO!The rarely heard voice was so loud, Alex covered his ears as fire roared through his veins, removing any doubt about what to do. Glancing up at the motorhome door, he was surprised to find it still closed since he was certain Sawyer would have heard the voice. But when the door remained shut, Alex was relieved that his explanation could wait. Sighing, he knew it really didn’t matter when his mate found out because the results would be the same. No one ever wanted him…not even his father…and it would be the same with Sawyer. Imagining the disgust on his mate’s face when the truth came out, Alex never heard the door open.

Gazing down at his mate, Sawyer wondered what had caused the wrinkles in Alex’s forehead, hoping he wasn’t having second thoughts about going with him to the beach. Fighting the urge to smooth them away, Sawyer said, instead, “Hey…ready to go?”

Hearing the voice that sent shivers down his spine, Alex looked up, taking in the gorgeous man standing in front of him. Swallowing his fear, he decided to take it slowly, hoping it would help protect his heart in the end. Rising, he replied, “Sure…just need to stop at my trailer first.”

Grinning, Sawyer said, “Great…let’s go.”

Chapter 5

“What the fuck do you mean you can’t find him?” snarled Glenn, white-knuckling his phone.

“Good morning to you, too, Sunshine,” Riley replied, smirking. “And no, I didn’t say that…I said I can’t use his phone to track him.”

“Same thing.” Sitting up, Glenn moved to the edge of his cot. The little amount of sleep was just enough to keep his eyes open but did little for his impatience about his mate’s whereabouts.

“I could point out to you that it isn’t the same thing, but somehow I don’t think you care.”

“Damn straight.” Running his fingers through his hair, Glenn put his anger aside, instead trying to sort out his sleep-tossed thoughts. Last night, he was sure it would only be a matter of hours before Riley found Sawyer’s location so he could send Ghost’s men to protect him until their threat was eliminated. And that just reminded him he still didn’t know who the bullets were meant for. “Fuck!” Glenn cursed, getting up and striding over to Ghost’s computer. “Riley, you’re the best there is, so tell me, why can’t you find Sawyer for me?”

“Hey, thanks,” Riley said, smiling at the compliment. “I’m all warm and fuzzy now knowing what you think of me.” After hearing a low growl coming through his phone, Riley said, “Ah, yes…as far as I can tell, Sawyer’s phone has something embedded in it that prevents anyone from locating him…it’s really ingenious…I can see so many times where it would have been really helpful if the agency had something like this. It makes the need to use burner phones obsolete…unless there’s anotherreason to use them…probably if you wanted to hide your number…or…”

“Riley!”

“What?”

“Can you hack whatever it is that is preventing you from finding my mate?”

“Yeah…but it’s gonna take time. This is so outside the box…I basically have to write a program that will do this so I can figure out how to gain backdoor access to Sawyer’s phone…and even then, it might not work.”

Running his hand over his face, Glenn ground his teeth together in frustration, feeling his tiger’s agitation. Conceding his first plan wasn’t going to work, he turned his attention to the other problem facing him. At least if he solved that one, there wouldn’t be a need to keep his distance from Sawyer. “Did you find out who was shooting at us…and why?”

“Yes…and no.”

“What the fuck does that mean?” roared Glenn. “Did. You. Find. Out. Who. Was. Shooting. At. Us?”

“I told you I did…I just don’t know why or which one of you was his target.”

“Well…who is it?”

“Name’s Luka…he’s a hired gun…was a sharpshooter in a paramilitary group but went out on his own. I got his name from the boat rental place…getting you his info…right now,” Riley murmured, clicking send on his computer.

Opening up the file, Glenn quickly scanned the contents, his frown deepening as he read. The man was ruthlessand deadly according to his kill record, confirming that Glenn’s instinct was right when he decided to stay away from his mate. “Fuck,” he said softly, realizing it was a miracle no one was killed last night. “Riley, I need to know who’s he after…until I do, none of us will be safe.”
