“Oh, yeah,” Alex said, giggling.
“There is more, Glenn,” Oracle replied.
“Hey guys,” said Sawyer, “let’s hear what Oracle has to say…okay?” Grabbing his mates’ hands, he tugged both of them down, until they were once again seated on the sofa. “We’re ready to hear about Glenn’s gift.”
“Wait!” Alex said, quickly looking at Glenn, “What gift do you have already?”
“I can hide my scent at will so it fools other shifters into thinking I’m human.”
“Cool…when did you get that?” asked Alex.
Glenn shrugged. “Always had it, as far as I know.”
“Does Smokey and Ghost know about it?” asked Alex.
“Yeah…and so does Riley and my mother…but no one else,” Glenn answered.
“You said there’s more…so what else is my mate getting?” asked Sawyer.
“The first thing is the Fates are enhancing the ability you have. From now on, you will be able to hide the scent of any shifter,” Oracle said.
“So I can hide the scent of Alex…or Sawyer?” asked Glenn.
“Yes…and of any other shifter.”
“But I thought only witches are allowed to do that,” Glenn said.
“Only witches can use a spell to do that, but the Fates gave you that ability when you were born and now, they are intensifying it.”
“Why?”
“The simple answer would be to help you protect your mates,” replied Oracle, “but that is only part of it. There are many people out there whose souls are infected with evil. They seek to rule the paranormal world and lead it into the darkness of the past. The Fates, along with the gods, are trying to prevent this from happening by gifting shifters with abilities to fight and defeat these warped souls. You… along with Sawyer…have been chosen to be part of their effort to crush evil throughout our world. If you and others like you fail, it will mean the end of all paranormals on earth.”
“Holy shit!” whispered Alex.
“In addition, Glenn,” Oracle continued, “the Fates are giving you the ability to see objects miles away. And they are augmenting your other senses. You will be able to hear over distances or even through walls, identify substances by taste, will be able to feel minute vibrations, and your sense of smell will be stronger.” Oracle paused for a moment to make sure Glenn was taking it all in, before continuing. “The Fates have also increased your strength.”
“You mean like Dylon’s?” asked Sawyer.
“No, but close,” Oracle said.
“Holy cow!” exclaimed Alex.
“I get the whole evil thing, but why? How can Sawyer and I fight this hidden army of evil people when we are also protecting Alex? I won’t leave Alex alone…and I damn well know Sawyer won’t either…just so we can go off and fight these assholes. And I’ll be dammed if I’m taking Alex with us,” Glenn grumbled.
“I agree with my mate, Oracle. My first priority is to make sure Alex is safe,” said Sawyer.
“As you should,” Oracle said, soothingly. “Unfortunately, I have not been given permission to explain anything further at this time, but it will become clear to you in the future. I know that is frustrating, but know this…the Fates gave Alex his two animals. The gifts they give to you and Glenn have been chosen specifically to provide the ultimate protection for a very special shifter.”
Sawyer exchanged glances with Glenn and, seeing his mate’s acceptance of Oracle’s words, gave a quick nod back, indicating his agreement. Then, shifting his gaze to Oracle, he asked, “Who are you going to tell about our gifts?”
“No one without your permission,” replied Oracle. “However, I do recommend you tell either Hunter or Jackson about them.”
“What about Mac?”
“That is up to you.”
“Hey, Sawyer,” Glenn said, “I think since Mac is a member of Jackson’s pack…at least temporarily…you should talk to Jackson first.”
