Smiling softly, Oracle said, “Yes, you may.”
Looking at Alex, Sawyer saw him nod. Then, glancing at his other mate, he asked, “If I can reject it, why not?”
“Okay, Oracle,” Glenn said, “What’s his gift?”
Nodding, Oracle said. “The information I have for you is confidential, however, it is your choice Sawyer, whether you want Glenn and Alex with you.”
“Of course I do. We’re mates,” Sawyer said, his voice rising in consternation. Keep a secret from Glenn and Alex? That wasn’t going to happen, especially after he complained last night about Glenn doing just that.
“No offense intended, dear. It is a question I must ask,” Oracle said.
“Oh, okay,” Sawyer muttered, chagrined at his reaction.
“Can you just spit it out Oracle?” asked Alex. “My nerves are getting the better of me.”
“Of course, dear, but you have nothing to worry about,” Oracle said soothingly. “Your gift, Sawyer, is Darkness Master…”
“No fucking way!” exclaimed Glenn. “Darkness Master…really? I can’t fucking believe it.” As far as he could remember from his studies, no one ever possessed that, at least anyone he knew of. It was a gift more mythical than anything else. And for Sawyer to get it…well, that cemented his decision to keep his mates away from the Blackwood Pack since Sawyer’s rarity now matched or even surpassed Alex’s.
“I’ve never heard of it,” Sawyer said.
“Me either…what is it?” asked Alex.
“May I?” asked Oracle, looking at Glenn. Then, after he nodded, she began. “The gift gives you the ability to cloak…”
“You mean like disappear?” Alex asked wide-eyed.
“Yes. When Sawyer uses that ability, he will become invisible,” Oracle confirmed.
“Oh wow!” exclaimed Alex, looking at Sawyer. “Hey, you’re just like Cody…that is so neat!”
“Not exactly, Alex,” Oracle said. “There is a difference. Cody can only make himself invisible…but as a Darkness Master, Sawyer has the ability to cloak not only himself but others too.”
“Whoa! That is seriously cool! That certainly beats my dual shifter stuff by a mile,” Alex said.
“So I can cloak Alex and Glenn? How does it work? Do they have to be touching me? Or can I cloak them alone? Say Alex is not near me…can I still cloak him?” asked Sawyer.
“Your ability to cloak a person does not require them to be touching you nor do they have to be in sight. Forinstance, it is possible for you to cloak Mac or even Hunter in France,” Oracle said.
“Am I limited to family members?” asked Sawyer.
“No, you can do it to anyone you want…but there are a couple of restrictions. It can only be used on someone who is known to you and, of course, it cannot be used on anyone who isn’t a paranormal.”
Astonished, Sawyer didn’t know what to think about his gift. He could definitely see how it would help him protect Alex, but if he were honest, it didn’t give him any kind of power like Hunter got to defend and kill someone who tried to harm his mate.Typical…the Fates probably thought I couldn’t handle that. Then on the other hand, why would I need that since Alex has a tiger and a dragon who can slay enemies.Sighing, he glanced at his mates only to find them looking at him expectantly, waiting for him to respond. Not knowing what to say, he decided to toss the ball to them. “What do you guys think?”
“I think it’s freaking awesome!” exclaimed Alex.
“Glenn?” asked Sawyer, “What about you?”
“Well…I can see advantages, but I’m not sure it’s little more than a parlor trick.”
Slapping Glenn’s arm, Alex huffed out indignantly, “It is not! I think it’s an amazing gift and I can see it being very useful in hiding me from The Collector.”
“Yeah…Sawyer can hide you from sight but what about the other senses…like hearing or smell? It doesn’t do much good if someone can locate you by other means, does it?” asked Glenn.
“I thought you knew all about the gift,” Alex said.
“Just what a Darkness Master can do but not the actual mechanics of it,” replied Glenn. “As far as I know, no one has ever been given this gift.”
