Punching the speaker button, Jackson set his phone down on his desk. “All set. What’s up?”
“I spoke with Willow and based on what she saw that night…and the details she can provide…the High Council will have no choice but to charge Josiah.”
“Finally,” muttered Steel. “It can’t happen too soon.”
“I heard that,” Penn chuckled.
“When are you planning to come here to take her official sworn statement?” asked Jackson.
“That’s the problem. I’m tied up in court for the next two weeks but I don’t want to wait that long. Instead, with Willow’s agreement, I recorded her statement, then had it transcribed. I’m sending it to you by email for her to read and make any corrections to it. If there aren’t any, I’ll send a notary to have her swear to the truthfulness and attest to her signature. This way, I can submit it to the High Council in a few days,” Penn said.
“That sounds good. As soon as I can get my uncle under lock and key, the better it’ll be for everyone,” Jackson said.
“What about Josiah’s phony murder complaint against my mate and his brothers?” asked Steel.
“That’s the other thing I wanted to discuss. The plan was to sit on the evidence you have disproving Josiah’s accusations. I don’t think there’s any need to do that now. In fact, sending it in before we submit Willow’s testimony is the best strategic move we can make. Once the High Council receives it, the warning restraining you from injuring any Silver Point pack’s members will be lifted.”
“Fine, but why can’t we do both at the same time?” asked Jackson.
“We can, but I don’t want to give Josiah the possibility to claim one of his members were injured by the Blackwood Pack before the Clerk of the High Council records your proof that you were in Las Vegas at the time of the massacre,” Penn explained.
“Penn, we’re not planning to go after…”
“I know that…but I’m worried if Josiah gets your evidence and the witness testimony at the same time, he’ll order a member of his pack killed and claim you did it before the…”
“I got it now.” Jackson looked at Steel, then after seeing him nod, said, “Go ahead and submit it. And I’ll let you know whether there are any corrections after Willow reviews the document.”
“I was hoping you’d say that. I have the package all ready to go to the High Council. I’ve already spoken to the Clerk who promises me she will time stamp it immediately upon receipt and then send me a copy of it,” Penn said.
“Are you sending a copy to Josiah?” asked Steel.
“Yes, but by snail mail which, by the way, is perfectly legal. It should give the High Council at least a two-day head start on reviewing the evidence.”
Snorting, Steel muttered, “Fucking glad you’re on our side.”
“Me, too,” Jackson said. “Just one question. What will happen when the High Council receives Willow’s statement? Will Josiah be arrested immediately?”
“Not right away, but should be shortly afterwards. Once it’s submitted, the Clerk will date stamp it and then immediately forward it to the Chairman of the High Council. After reviewing it, he can choose to call Willow to verify her statement, or, which I think is more likely, will issue an arrest warrant for your uncle. It will be kept under wraps until he’s in their custody,” explained Penn.
“Will they send you notice if an arrest warrant is issued?” asked Jackson.
“Maybe…it’s up to the Chairman as to how he wants to handle it, but I expect I’ll be notified shortly after your uncle is arrested.”
“Okay,” Jackson said. “Please let me know when you’ll submit Willow’s testimony.”
“Sure. Any other questions?” asked Penn.
“I’m fine,” Steel said.
“Yeah, me too…thanks Penn. It’ll be good to finally have this finished,” Jackson said.
“Most definitely. Talk to you later,” Penn said, before hanging up.
“I can’t believe we’re so close to putting an end to my uncle’s bullshit,” murmured Jackson. “All these years…”
“As far as I’m concerned it can’t happen fast enough. Have you thought about what you are going to do with his pack?”
“Ugh!” Jackson growled. “Honestly, no I haven’t…nor do I want to right now.”
