“No problem…now go,” Riley murmured, turning back to his computer.

Pausing for a moment, Glenn gazed at Riley, grateful for his friendship. He owed him big for all his work helping him during the last several weeks.

“Stop staring at me…it’s freaking me out,” Riley muttered, keeping his focus on the screen.

Chuckling, Glenn headed to the door. “By the way, Sawyer knows you’re a good guy. Catch you later.” Shutting the safe room door behind him, he made a detour to the kitchen, grabbing several bottles of water for him and his mates. Then, grinning, he walked toward their bedroom, anticipating crawling into bed with Sawyer and Alex.

Chapter 29

Glenn slipped inside the dark bedroom, closing the door behind him quietly with a tiny click. Remaining still, he gazed over at the king size bed, running his eyes over his mates’ intertwined bare limbs. Lust barreled through his body, filling Glenn with a fiery need never before felt in the many sexual encounters he previously had in his life. Shedding his clothes, he padded over to his mates, fisting his hard, dripping dick. Stopping at the side of the bed, he lifted his face and deeply inhaled the mingling scents of Sawyer and Alex. Letting them fill his tiger’s scent glands, Glenn was readying his body for the claiming of both mates.

“Where did you go?” whispered Sawyer, opening his eyes, his wolf gleaming through them in the darkness.

“Did I wake you?”

“You not being here with us, woke me.”

“Sorry,” Glenn said, stroking his dick. “I’m here now.”

“I can see that,” Sawyer whispered, lowering his eyes to his mate’s cock before raising them. “But where were you?”

“I needed to see Riley.”

“What for?”

“Nothing important.”

“That’s the second time you lied tonight…is that what I can expect from you? Because, you should know, that just isn’t gonna work for me.”

“Can we talk about this tomorrow?”

Several small wrinkles creased Sawyer’s forehead. “So…this is what…standard operating procedure for spies?”

Letting go of his dick, the lust in his body fading, Glenn tried to tamp down his frustration at Sawyer’s attitude; it certainly wasn’t going to be conducive to a fuck session. He didn’t know the cause of it nor did he want to pursue it tonight with his mate. First sex, then sleep; that’s what Glenn wanted and needed, but he got the distinct feeling all there’d be was sleep. “What are you talking about?” he asked, his voice more of a growl than anything else.

“Shhh, keep your voice down,” Sawyer admonished. “Refusing to include us in your ‘other’ life for one. Also, whenever you don’t want to talk to me or Alex about something, you steer the conversation somewhere else or, as you did now, you want to postpone it, probably hoping we’ll forget. I get it that you have a job…but if any of that job involves the safety or protection of Alex, then I should be involved because he’s my mate too.”

“Why are you so pissed? I’m on your side.”

Sawyer’s eyes widened. “No you aren’t…not really. Maybe that’s what you tell yourself to excuse your actions, but it’s not true. Me…Alex…we’re an inconvenience to you.”

“I didn’t say that,” Glenn growled.

“You didn’t have to…your actions did. The last time I was surfing with Ghost was what…three days ago? So that’s when you found out I was your mate, but…I know…you had other things to do that were more important than me. And don’t try to tell me you couldn’t find me cause all you had to do was to call Dylon…he’d have told you where I was. And then what did you do when you found me and Alex? You put us to bed here as if we were children, then snuck out, and left us alone. Shit, when I discovered Alex, I couldn’t leave him alone for more than ten minutes. You know why? Because he’s my fated mate…the one who’s meant for me. Treating your mates like they’re just one part of your life isn’t a recipe for success…Alex deserves better…and so do I.”

Turning away from Glenn, Sawyer moved Alex onto his side, tugging his mate tight against his chest while his cock nestled in the crack of Alex’s ass. Disappointment didn’t begin to describe how he’d felt when he’d awoken and found Glenn gone. Missing his mate, he finally left Alex, when his worry became too great, to search for Glenn. Leaving the confines of the bedroom, Sawyer had quietly crept down the hallway until he got to the living room. Glancing around, he found it empty but heard his mate’s faint voice.

Zeroing in on the source of it, Sawyer padded over to the other side of the room where a doorway was partially visible. He was about to enter when he heard Riley, in a voice that was filled with concern and affection, encouraging Glenn to go to bed. Jealousy shot through him at the close relationship his mate had with Riley—the kind of a relationship Glenn owed him and Alex instead of a co-worker…if that was all Riley was. That thought, more than any other, drove home what was lacking in their mating, clarifying why it was so easy for Glenn to leave them. Turning away, Sawyer wanted to hear no more.

After returning to the bedroom, Sawyer climbed back into bed, wrapping himself around Alex, sorrow stomping on his heart. Whenever having a mate had crossed his mind, being unequal in the relationship wassimply unimaginable. Of course, he never considered he’d have two mates, so maybe that was normal when there were three. But if that were the case, Sawyer knew Alex wouldn’t like it. Closing his eyes, he tried to quell the turmoil in his mind, regulating his breathing to help him get back asleep. It was working, until Glenn entered, causing his frustration and anger to flare again.

His ensuing words with Glenn made it crystal clear to Sawyer where he stood in his mate’s life. Whether Glenn also felt that way about Alex was unclear, but it didn’t matter as far as Sawyer was concerned; he vowed Alex would always come first with him. Hopefully, it would be enough to blunt any of his mate’s pain caused by Glenn.

Watching Sawyer turn his back on him was painful, but not as painful as knowing he’d hurt his mate, especially after assuring Alex he’d never do that. Rubbing the place over his heart, Glenn began to turn away, trying to figure what could be done to right the sinking ship he found himself on. It was one big mess and one he needed help sorting out. Sawyer and Alex would always come first in his life, but saying it and showing it were two different things.

“Sawyer? Glenn?” Alex called out in a sleepy voice.

“Here I am, sweetheart,” Sawyer murmured, brushing a light kiss against the side of Alex’s face.
