David’s face brightened. “That’s not a bad idea. Thanks, love.”

“Glad to be of help.” Then feeling his phone buzzing again in his pocket, Zane said, “Oops, gotta go. We can talk later about it, if you want.”

Smiling, David gave his mate a push towards the door. “Go. I don’t want the Alpha angry at you.”

“Not gonna happen, babe,” Zane said before leaving. But once he shut the door behind him, he broke into a run, anxious to not keep his brother waiting.

After relaying Glenn’s request to Jackson, Dylon sat quietly in his Alpha’s office along with Steel, waiting for his response. He wouldn’t fault him if he refused; it was probably what he’d do if he were in Jackson’s place. But so far, it hadn’t happened. He sensed that Jackson was discussing it with his mate through their mind link and, based on the look on Steel’s face, Dylon doubted Jackson was going to agree. Finally, Jackson looked at him.

“As Alpha, my main priorities are the safety of the members of my pack and guarding the secrets we have. Having said that, I also have to consider what might happen to this couple if I don’t extend my protection; their deaths are something I don’t want to have on my conscience. I know what it feels like to be hunted and I also understand my brothers and I would not be here today if Jimmy and Mystia hadn’t extended not only a helping hand, but their protection too. And, may I point out, by risking their lives for us. Ever since then, I’ve tried to live up to the example they set.

“I must also consider that this request comes from Willow’s son. As you know, she’s responsible for saving my mother’s life and, not only that, but she’s decided to go out on the line to swear to the actions ofJosiah…which may save our lives and those of others. Therefore, I must include that in any decision I make.

“Steel is worried about the danger that might follow the couple here…and his concern is valid. After all, I know the lengths The Collector was willing to go to add Willow to his zoo. I also understand my decision on this matter may risk every pack member’s life. So here’s the question I have to consider: ‘Am I willing to put my pack in harm’s way?’ Because that’s what I’ll be doing if I grant them sanctuary. However, in this case I’m confident we can meet and defeat any danger their presence here poses. So my answer is ‘yes,’ they are welcome to stay here for as long as needed. Please call Willow’s son…”

“Glenn…his name is Glenn Thatcher.”

“Right. Please call Glenn and tell him I have granted him permission to bring the shifters here. Find out when they will be arriving and also ask him if they have any special needs so Steel can arrange for them. There’s also the matter of our secrets. I want you to devise a plan on the best way to keep them concealed.”

“I’ll get on that right away,” Dylon said. “And thanks.”

Steel waited until Dylon left the room before wrapping his arms around Jackson. Then, kissing his mate behind his ear, whispered, “Have I told you lately, how lucky I am to be your mate.”

“Nope, but you aren’t as lucky as I am.” Turning his head, Jackson pressed his lips against Steel’s, relishing the softness of them.

Giving a rap on the doorframe, Zane said, “Hey, you wanted to talk to me?” Then seeing his brother and Steel kissing, he added, “I’ll come back.”

Breaking apart, Jackson glanced over at his brother. “No, stay. This won’t take long.”

Taking the chair his brother pointed to, Zane smiled. “Good, then you can go back to your hanky-panky.”

Shaking his head, Jackson said, “You, too.”

Shrugging, Zane said, “Hey, what can I say? Ever since the pajama party David went to…which, by the way, was your idea…he’s been using it. So now he and I engage in ‘hanky-panky’.”

“Yes…well, moving on. Sawyer met his mate…Alex Fouché. Find out everything you can about him but don’t mention it to our cousins. Hunter wants to talk to Sawyer first.”

“What is he?”

Jackson paused for a moment, then said, “He’s a fox…and a dragon.”

Zane’s eyes widened. “Holy fuck!”

“Exactly…but keep it to yourself. Just let me know what you find out.”

“My lips are sealed…how fast do you need it?”

“Right away…everything else can wait,” Jackson said.

“Okay, but I still haven’t been able to find out who was trying to track Sawyer.”

“Is he still in LA?” asked Jackson.

“Yeah.”

“Check his phone every so often. His mate is in LA so I doubt he’s going to be anywhere else.”
