“But who?” growled Hunter. “Meeting Alex happened in the last day or two. I’m positive Sawyer didn’t know his mate was in LA or he certainly would’ve told Mac.”
“Hmm…Mac didn’t mention it last night but then everyone was celebrating Mom being able to walk again, which by the way, I was going to have a conference call with you, Robin, and Sawyer later today to tell you the good news.”
“Wow! Jackie, I’m amazed! Mac led me to believe it might never happen.”
“Same here, but Mom surprised all of us,” Jackson said smiling. “So, back to Sawyer. Have you answered him yet?”
“No. I have no idea how a wolf shifter can protect someone so rare. I keep asking myself what I would do for Fionn if the Fates hadn’t given me the gift of the White Knight. How the hell could I ever protect him? It would be a nightmare because there’s no way I could. Now my brother finds himself in that situation, so what advice can I offer him?”
“I don’t know, Hunt. The only thing I can think of is for Sawyer and Alex to head back here immediately. It’s the only safe place for them.”
“Jackie, this is Sawyer we’re talking about…the brother who wants to see the world. To be confined to the pack lands forever…I don’t know…even if it protects his mate, it would be like putting him in a cage. Sawyer’s a free spirit…he was never meant to be tied down to one place.”
“I get that, but Hunt, ask yourself…what would you do to keep Fionn safe? Trust me, that’s what Sawyer will do. And right now, the only safe place for Alex is here,” Jackson said softly.
Rubbing the back of his neck, Hunter knew his cousin was right. “Yeah, I hear you, but I know my brother and eventually he will grow to hate the restrictions…then what?”
“I don’t know, Hunt, but it buys time to figure things out.”
“Well, in order to get him to agree to the idea, I’ll have to tell him about the powers of the Blackwood Pack…all of them. And right now, Mase is the only one who knows…and that’s just about Dakota’s gift.”
“Mac knows about some of the others, too.”
“Yeah…but if I’m gonna have any chance of convincing Sawyer to cut his trip short and bring Alex back, he’ll have to be told everything.”
“Maybe Mac should be told the rest,” Jackson mused. “He’s the closest to Sawyer, right?”
“Yup…it’s the twinny thing.”
“Then that’s the answer. Sawyer will listen to Mac and will believe him.”
“Worth a try. Are you gonna tell Mac or do you want me to tell him?” asked Hunter.
“I think I should. I’ll meet with him after breakfast.”
“Can you ask Oracle whether she knows if Sawyer’s getting a gift? If so, it might help my brother make a decision.”
“Will do, but Hunt, if he’s getting one, Oracle won’t tell me what it is, only that he is getting it.”
“It’ll have to suffice. Maybe Fionn and I should come back early.”
“No…at least not yet. Let’s see what Oracle says first.”
“Okay…go back to sleep Jackie. Talk to you later.”
“Bye,” Jackson murmured, ending the call. Setting his phone on the nightstand, he rolled over into his mate’s arms.
“I got the gist of it,” Steel mumbled. “Sawyer found his Fated Mate.”
“Yeah…Alex. He’s a dual shifter…can you believe that?” Jackson murmured.
“Ah…babe…I never heard of it.”
“Me neither but according to Sawyer, his mate can shift into two different animals.”
“He’s a shapeshifter…like Logan?”
Wrinkling his nose, Jackson thought for a moment, yawning as sleep once more called him. “I don’t think so. Hunter said just two animals. Maybe your mother can tell us more in the morning.”
