Gesturing at three of his men, Ghost ordered, “Handcuff him…arms and legs…then put him in the trunk of my car…and you better gag him too.”

“Check his pockets…I want everything,” Glenn said, and taking his phone from his pocket, he snapped several pictures of Loki, then sent them to Riley. “Did he drive?”

“Yeah, but he parked a mile down the road. My men can get rid of it,” Ghost said.

“No. It’s better if Luka sees it outside the cabin,” Glenn growled. “Have them bring it here so you can follow me and Smokey. And be sure to pass along my thanks to your friend for the loan of his bar.”

“Will do…but he owed me one, so he’s happy to be debt free. On top of that, his bar will be cleaner than it’s been since he bought it after my guys are done wiping it down,” Ghost said, smirking.

“Aww, aren’t you sweet.”

“Fuck off, asshole.”

Chuckling, Glenn called, “Smokey, you done?”

“Yup, everything’s taken care of.”

“Good, let’s go.”

Staring at his computer screen, Hunter watched Henri methodically search files in the secret room in Artur’s office. As far as he could determine, the man hadn’t found what he was looking for. Of course, he still didn’t know what Henri was after, but it appeared he intended to search every file. Glancing over at the bed to make sure Fionn was still asleep, he then resumed watching Henri retrieve yet another bunch of file folders.

Only yesterday had Hunter discovered the secret room as he was sorting through the books in Artur’s office. Accidentally pressing a button, he jumped back as the wall moved, revealing what was behind it. He groaned at all the file cabinets; his job had just gotten a lot bigger. Normally, it would fall to Fionn, but once Hunter realized how distressed his mate got just standing in the doorway to Artur’s office, he volunteered for the task.

Starting in the office, Hunter was sure it wouldn’t take long, but that was until yesterday. After discovering the secret room, he’d walked into it, turning around slowly, stopping when he saw the table with some files on it and an open file drawer. Frowning, he moved closer, sniffing the air. Hunter’s wolf growled, warning him of danger to their mate as he picked up a scent. Frowning, he realized who’d been in there. Returning to Artur’s desk, he sat down at the computer.

Accessing the security feed, Hunter searched the video for the previous night’s recording, confirming who’d been in the room. He’d watched as Henri methodically looked through a folder, occasionally frowning at something he found, but ultimately continuing on until sunrise, when he left. Further security searches revealed the disturbing information that Henri’s nightly forays had been going on for some time.

It was obvious Henri wasn’t planning to stop any time soon, if his visit tonight was any indication. Watching Henri grab more files, Hunter pondered his next step. Certainly telling Fionn was right up there but he also needed to let Carson and Remy know. Rubbing his jaw, Hunter contemplated his mate’s reaction and somehow, he didn’t think Fionn would be too happy about it. The question that worried Hunter the most was whether hismate would lose control of his dragon and end up frying Henri to a crisp. If that happened, it would cause long-lasting distress to Fionn.

So deep was he in thought, Hunter jumped when he felt a hand on his back. Whipping his head around, he saw Fionn standing behind him. “Fuck! Don’t do that again. What are you doing up, my pet?”

“I couldn’t sleep. Why are you up?” Fionn asked, bending slightly as he peered at Hunter’s computer’s screen. “Hey, isn’t that Henri? What’s he doing?”

Tugging Fionn onto his lap, Hunter nuzzled the skin behind his mate’s ear before saying, “He’s looking through your father’s files for something.”

“Do you know what it is he wants?”

“No, my pet, but it must be important to him.”

Squinting at the screen, Fionn asked, “Where is he? That doesn’t look like the cellar.”

“In a hidden room in your father’s office,” Hunter murmured, relieved his mate didn’t seem angry.

“Really? How freaking cool is that! I wonder if there are secret passages also. Are you going to ask Henri why he’s searching?”

“I think we should talk to Carson and Remy first…see if they gave him approval to do it.”

“Yeah, that’s a good idea…are you coming back to bed soon?”

“I am…but pet, aren’t you upset about Henri?”

“Uhm…the truth? I honestly just don’t care. Soon, I’ll be rid of everything that ties me to my father and I can’t wait for that day. You never met him but if you think my uncle was a cruel bastard, he wasn’t even close to how cruel my father was to me and my mother. The chateau, the businesses…my father had so much and all he had to do was sell one crappy vase and my mother would have survived. That’s what I’m pissed off about.”

Pointing to Henri’s image on the screen, Fionn continued. “You saw how he looked at me when we met at the airport…he hates me…why? I’m betting my father did something shitty to him and I’m taking the blame. So as far as I’m concerned, let him look through everything…maybe it will right whatever wrong my father did to him.”
