Running his fingers through his brother’s hair, Remy looked at Carson. “He’s in that stage of being wary of strangers.”
Snorting lightly, Carson said, “Been there, done that.”
Laughing, Remy scooped Eamon up, before asking his mate, “Do you want to meet my other brothers? I have to return this wandering pirate to Mrs. B.”
“Love to,” Carson replied, getting up. Then, smiling at Eamon, he asked, “A pirate? Can I see your sword?”
Removing his thumb from his mouth, Eamon said, “Uh-huh, but ya can’t keep it. Gally has one too and ya can’t keep his,” before promptly sticking his thumb back where it came from.
“I understand…just like to see them,” Carson said, “I’ll get my own if I want one.”
Nodding, Eamon’s eyes lit up. Wiggling in Remy’s arms, he ordered, “Down!” Once he was free, he ran toward the kitchen, yelling “Gally, Gally, Carsso wants a sword…he gonna be a pirate…we got another pirate!”
Smiling at his mate, Remy said, “And here I thought your name was Carson…sorry about that, Carsso.”
“Do you want to know a secret?” asked Carson, his eyes dancing merrily as he gazed at his mate.
“Absolutely!” Remy said. “Oh wait…is this secret blackmail-worthy?”
“Hmmm, well it depends…”
“On what?” asked Remy.
“On what you want from me,” Carson smirked.
“Okay…good enough for me. Tell me.”
“My siblings used to call me Carsy.”
“Carsy…I like it. Do they still use it?” asked Remy.
“Now, not usually…only on rare occasions, and in private, by Cody or Colton. We’re triplets.”
“You’re a triplet? I envy you…I didn’t have any siblings growing up. My brothers came much later…after I was an adult. I didn’t see them a lot because I was in college and then I took the winery job here right after graduation.”
“They’re lucky to have you,” Carson said, softly.
“Maybe…but it goes both ways,” replied Remy, pushing open the kitchen door and calling out. “Hey, guys, I have someone I want you to meet.”
Chapter 23
Pushing his empty plate away from him, Glenn leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest. So far, the only topic of conversation was about the newest pups in the Blackwood Pack and, of course, his mother oohed and aahed over every photo Cody showed her, making Glenn grind his teeth in frustration. From time to time, he tried to steer the talk back to the purpose of the breakfast meeting, but after his mother ignored each attempt, he gave up. Sighing, he picked up his phone, scrolling through his emails while his mind wandered back to the extraordinary wolf shifters sitting at the table. Suddenly, the hair on the back of his neck stood up and his eyes narrowed when he saw Dylon staring at him. Raising an eyebrow, he cocked his head, wondering what Royd had up his sleeve now.
Smirking at Glenn’s reaction, Dylon sent a message to his mate through their mind link and after listening to Cody’s advice, shifted his gaze and said, “Willow, have you decided to take us up on our offer?”
Looking at her son, Willow said, “Why don’t you want me to go with them?”
Snorting, Glenn replied, “They only want to use you as their eye-witness…they just aren’t saying it. You and I both know they can’t protect you like I can.”
“That’s bullshit,” Cody said. “Whether or not Willow testifies against Josiah is her choice. No one’s going to pressure her.”
“Willow,” Dylon said, “we weren’t sent to force you to come back so you can testify…in fact, that wasn’t even mentioned. The reason we’re here is that Hope was worried about Josiah killing you.”
“I know that, boys,” Willow said.
“Fine, I give you that…for now,” said Glenn, “but you can’t protect my mother better than I can.”
“Stop arguing,” Willow said, waiting until the room fell silent. “Now, I owe my son an explanation of why I’ve been on the run for the last six years.”
