“I will, and I’ll make sure he has fresh water.”
“Perfect,” Zane said, trying to hold back a yawn. “I better get some sleep…Dylon intends to leave at dawn ‘cause he thinks we’ll have a better chance of finding Willow before she moves to a different hiding place.”
“Okay,” David said quietly. “Please be careful tomorrow…I love you.”
“I love you, too, babe,” Zane said softly. “Have fun tonight.”
“Good night,” David whispered just before his mate hung up. Rolling onto his back, he stared up at the ceiling, remembering his mate’s voice. Just what he needed to push back the demons of his childhood from invading his sleep tonight. Smiling to himself, he climbed out of bed. It was time to go to his first pajama party. Walking over to the dresser, David pulled out a drawer, knowing exactly what he wanted. Digging through his mate’s clothes, he finally found the pink unicorn pajama pants Zane wore the first night they met. Chuckling as he remembered his friend Brian’s reaction, he quickly undressed before pulling them up and tying the cord tight around his waist.
Slipping on a white t-shirt he grabbed Zane’s pillow and their blanket from the bed, setting them by the door before heading over to replace Móndaslu’s water. “You be good for me, okay?” he said, picking up his pet and cuddling him in his arms before planting several kisseson his furry head. Placing him in the cage, David shut Móndaslu’s door, making sure it was firmly latched. “See you tomorrow.” Then, with his pillow and blanket clutched to his chest, David smiled as he headed to his first pajama party.

Watching Riley do his magic on a computer wasn’t Glenn’s idea of fun, but that’s what he spent most of the night doing. Finally, when he couldn’t handle it anymore, he stood, cracking his knuckles before stretching out his body. Then, he began pacing to keep from yelling in frustration at how long everything was taking.
Right now, his buddy was researching the three wolf shifters Glenn scented in the apartment, but other than finding out they belonged to the Blackwood Pack, there was very little on the shifters, and nothing about Glenn’s main concern as to why one of their wolves was so strong. His impatience growing, Glenn turned toward his friend and growled, “I’m running out of time.”
“Gimme a minute,” Riley murmured, not bothered by Glenn’s tone.
Gritting his teeth, Glenn remained quiet, but resumed pacing. Thankfully his handler made sure Singer was gone, giving him the green light to use assets such as his buddy without going through the chain of command. Otherwise, it would have been a bitch to have Riley pulled from his current job. Even so, Glenn knew he had to work at lightspeed. His mother was fleeing for her life. If there was any chance of finding her before she left the city, it had to be the next day. “Dammit, I just wished Singer had done his job instead of fucking off. If anything happens to my mother, I swear…he’s a dead man.”
Riley looked up from his screen at Glenn. “What do you know about the Blackwood Pack?”
Chapter 16
“Nothing, why?” Glenn answered.
Sighing, Riley leaned back in his chair. “Well, it’s an interesting story…more so because three of their members are here in New York and, I’m guessing, searching for your mother.”
“What do they want with my mother? Are they working for The Collector?”
Snorting, Riley replied, “Hardly. The Blackwood Pack was formed by the seven remaining members of the Fox River Pa…”
“Wait, my mother’s best friend is the Alpha Mate of the Fox River Pack,” Glenn said.
“You meanwasher best friend. According to a complaint filed with the High Council, Josiah of the Silver Point Pack is responsible for the massacre of every member of the Fox River Pack except for the seven oldest sons of the Alpha and Alpha Mate. They escaped…although I don’t know how…and formed the Blackwood Pack. The eldest brother, Jackson, is now the Alpha and has recently claimed his Fated Mate, Steel Valentin, CEO of Dire Enterprises.”
“No shit! The Hare got me a ride here on their jet.”
“There’s more,” Riley said. “Dylon Royd, only son of Franklin Royd, Vice Chair of the High Council, recently claimed his Fated Mate…Cody Blackwood, brother of Jackson. Dylon was formerly an enforcer in Josiah’s pack…”
“Did he take part in the massacre?” asked Glenn.
“No, he was hired after it happened. You should also know, Cody and Dylon were granted temporary custody of Fionn MacDùghlas,a dragon…”
“What’s a fucking dragon doing in a wolf pack?”
Shrugging, Riley continued, “There’s more. Very recently, another brother met his Fated Mate, a young Italian wolf who’s the High Priest of the Paranormal World. His word is final on all moral issues in our world.”
Staring at his buddy, Glenn sat down heavily in the chair he’d recently vacated. “How big is the Blackwood Pack?”
“The seven brothers and a few mates. Oh, by the way, Slate Valentin, COO of Dire Enterprises is the Fated Mate of another of Jackson’s brothers.”
It took Glenn a few seconds to put together all the pieces Reilly had dug up, before murmuring, “That explains why the Fates gave the Blackwood Pack a High Priest…they can protect him very well with the Valentin money behind them.” Then he asked, “Mom’s friend was killed in the massacre?”
“Yes.”
Frowning, Glenn asked, “When did it happen?”
