“Not sure,” Memphis said. “But they’ve got a lot of calls between them.”

“Sage and Cash?” I asked in confusion.

“Sage and Daisy…even when Sage and Cash aren’t working a case.”

“Keep an eye on it,” I said softly.

“You know Sage is harmless…he’d never hurt her in a million years and he’s a hundred percent committed to Cash,” Memphis said.

“She’s got no one, Memphis, and for all her abilities with acomputer, she’s not exactly a social butterfly. A guy like Sage could fuck with her head without even meaning to.”

“I’ll take care of it,” Memphis assured me. “Shouldn’t you be getting ready?” he asked me and I glanced at the clock on my phone.

“Yeah,” I responded and then I searched out Willow and Nicole again. They were still talking to Hannah and Rebecca. Another search showed Jamie was with Leo and Mrs. Finney. He was showing the old woman the Spiderman doll Matty had given him. I had no doubt it would just be a matter of time before he was racing Mrs. Finney in her electric wheelchair like Leo and Matty often did. My only hope was that he’d do it with his clothes on.

“I’ll catch you in a bit,” I said to Memphis. “We need to talk to Magnus after the ceremony,” I reminded him. My eyes automatically went to Dante as I spoke and I saw that he was chatting with one of the young men who was part of the catering staff.

“He’s not going to like it,” Memphis murmured.

“Which one?” I asked.

“Either.”

I nodded at that. I had no idea why Magnus and Dante seemed to rub each other the wrong way, but I also didn’t really give a shit because my primary concern was making sure the older man was safe when he returned to Texas next week to testify in a high-profile case. And while Dante wasn’t the easiest guy to deal with in terms of personality, he had killer instincts and in a situation where there was no credible threat, that trait would come in handy. The bottom line was that I would do whatever it took to make sure Matty’s grandfather came home to his grandson.

“I’m not giving either of them a choice,” was all I said in response and then I went to find Seth so I could give my husband an update on how our kids were doing before we stood at our friends’ sides to help them celebrate this next chapter in their lives.

Chapter 15

Hawke

What the hellis wrong with me?

My fingers wouldn’t stop shaking as I tried to tie my bow tie.

“Here,” I heard Magnus say as he stepped up next to me and gently pushed my fingers away from the silky material.

“I don’t know why I’m so nervous,” I admitted. “I know Tate wants to marry me…”

Magnus chuckled. “I think it’s less about worrying he’ll get cold feet and more about just wanting to get started on this new chapter in your lives.”

I nodded my head, but stopped when Magnus said, “Hold still.”

As soon as Ronan had left, I’d started getting dressed as I’d rambled on and on to Magnus about our plans for the following day as well as the one-night honeymoon we were planning before our actual honeymoon began.

After the reception tonight, we were planning to head back to our house with Matty so he could wake up Christmas morning in his own bed and we would have that moment where he realized Santa had come. Magnus would be joining us in the morning to open presents and then we’d be spending the afternoon with theentire extended family at Logan and Dom’s house in the San Juan Islands.

Magnus had agreed to babysit Matty for us tomorrow night so Tate and I could spend a night together at a quaint Bed and Breakfast in Friday Harbor and then we were planning on leaving for our real honeymoon in a couple of days. The first half of the honeymoon would be spent with Matty in Disney World. We’d convinced Zane and Connor to let us take Leo with us so Matty could have his best friend with him. After a week at Disney World, we were going to take Matty and Leo home and Matty would spend ten days with Zane and Connor while Tate and I went to Santorini, Greece for the rest of our honeymoon.

“There,” Magnus said as he turned me so I could examine his handiwork in the mirror. The bow tie looked perfect. I went back to the window seat and sat down so I could get my shoes on.

“Hawke,” Magnus said quietly and I looked up to see him looking at me with all seriousness. It took me a moment to remember he’d wanted to talk to me about something when he’d come in.

I pulled my shoes on and then focused all my attention on him. The man actually looked nervous and I steeled myself for bad news. Had he decided against moving up here permanently, choosing instead to stay in Texas? That would fucking devastate Matty. Me and Tate too, since we’d grown close to the man in the months he’d been helping us get Matty through his chemotherapy treatments.

“I…I wanted to say thank you,” Magnus began and I felt my heart constrict painfully. Shit, that sounded like the start of a kiss-off speech.

“For what?” I asked when he didn’t continue on his own.
