“You can stay here,” he said matter-of-factly, his voice the right balance of firm, yet soft.It was far from the controlling tone I had gotten used to with Jared.

“Oh, no.Really, I’m fine. But thank you.”I waved a hand dismissively and tried to look anywhere but into the deep blue eyes that studied me intensely.

He folded his arms over his chest and studied me, waiting for me to say something. But before I could, Asher got up and stood beside him, pinning me with the same look.

“Look, I know you guys are just trying to help, and I appreciate that.Really, I do.But I can’t just crash your place and stay with you.”

“Why not?”Enzo pressed, his energy such a beautiful blend of masculine and protector, and sex god all wrapped into one delicious package.

“I don’t know,” I blurted out, feeling the heat as it rushed through me, staining my skin with a blush.“You don’t even know me.What if I am some psycho killer or something?”

Asher licked his lips as he grinned, nodding his head before he responded.

“I mean this in the absolute best way,” he started, raising his eyebrows.“But I’m not worried about that at all.I saw you handle those roses, and you did a great job—don’t get me wrong. But again, neither of us is worried about you being a psycho killer.A pissed-off ex-girlfriend?Sure.Psycho killer—no.”

I pushed a breath through my mouth, letting it fall sideways as I tried and failed to come up with a better reason I shouldn’t stay with them. The problem was that no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t.Maybe it was selfish of me to take them up on the offer, but I literally had nowhere else to go.I didn’t have a job, and if Jared froze all of my credit cards, I didn’t have access to any funds either.I was stupid for letting him convince me that he would always take care of me and that I didn’t need to work, but that was a worry for another day.

“Okay, fine,” I said, letting my hands fall in surrender as they both grinned at me.“If you’re both absolutely sure that it’s not a problem, I will stay until I can get on my feet again.I promise, I won’t dilly dally and take forever.”

Enzo gave me a smile that melted everything inside of me and nodded for me to follow him.

“We’re more than sure.I’ll show you where the guest room is.”

I forced my shoulders down as I walked behind him, immediately feeling the warmth spread through my body as Asher gently placed his hand on my lower back and guided me down the hallway.

While I knew they were both taking me in out of the kindness of their hearts, I had to remind myself that I was here to get back on my feet—not to fall for my incredibly handsome and super sweet neighbors.

“Are you sure this wasa good idea?”Asher asked as I stood in the kitchen, looking in the fridge for something to make for lunch.

“Yeah.Why wouldn’t it be?”

“Because we don’t know her that well, and more importantly, she doesn’t know us.”
