The woman pretended to look at her computer.“I’m sorry, sir, but we have no one with that name.”

Gideon tightened his grip on his anger and tried to look tired and worried, not pissed.“I don’t know what to do.I’ve been calling other hotels, and this one was on my way home, so I thought I’d stop.”

“I’m sorry to hear that, sir.”

He nodded and pressed his fingers against the bridge of his nose.“I don’t want to make the two-hour trip home.Do you have a room I can have?”He pulled his wallet out of the pocket on the inside of his jacket and handed her his card.

“Do you have any preference, sir?”

“No.It doesn’t matter.I just need to make some calls and then crash for a few hours.”

He saw her relax a bit and hand him a key.

“You’ll be on the sixth floor.Have a good evening.”

“You, too.Thank you.”

Chapter Seventeen

Gideon stopped in frontof his door and put the key in the scanner. The woman downstairs could tell if he went to his room from the sensors on his door, so he decided not to take a chance on her seeing him and sending security.

He closed the door and started walking up and down the hallways, following his mate’s scent.

He made sure to use the stairs because the elevators had cameras. He knew they had cameras in the hallways, but he knew from experience they only monitored the elevators and room sensors unless they had a reason to keep watch.

He thought he’d fooled the woman downstairs, but he wasn’t going to take a chance that the woman would call the police.

Her scent hit him when he reached the top floor. He followed it down the hallway and to her door.He knew he had no key, but he could break in and do it in such a way that no one would know except Jessica if she were awake.

Gideon grabbed the handle and used a small knife he carried to jimmy the lock.It was amazing how easy it was, and it also pissed him off.She had deliberately put herself in harm’s way, and he wasn’t happy about it.He’d deal with that eventually. Now, he just needed to hold her.

He shut the door and looked around. There was enough light coming in through the window that he could see her clearly, face down on the bed, naked, with the blanket pushed down enough that her back was naked and practically glowed.

What broke his heart were the dried tears on her cheeks. He wanted to kill his cousin, but he also had to take some responsibility for her pain because he hadn’t told her about the will. Now, she would think he was deceiving her.

His main objective right now was to bond with his mate.He needed to show her, in every way, to whom she belonged.
