She shrugged.
“Nah don’t shrug. Tell me you wanna come to my fight and see me.”
She was quiet for a moment then she shocked the fuck out of me and crawled into my lap. Then she hoisted her dress up enough to comfortably straddle my lap. “Yeah, I wanna come see my homie fight,” she answered when her face was close to mine, her lips so close to mine any P word would have them touching.
“Homie, huh?” I asked.
“Yup.”
“Bet.”
Chapter
Five
Selah
Once again I was in this man’s space, submerged in his presence, feeling like I didn’t wanna move or leave. I liked his energy and the way he just existed. He wasn’t full of himself or self-centered. He was a normal human, easy to talk to even though he wasn’t much of a talker.
I pecked his lips again, then pulled back. “Food?”
He chuckled and reached into his pocket. Seconds later he had his phone out. He tapped around with his thumb for a few seconds before he had the phone to his ear.
“What do you wanna eat?” He looked at me for an answer while the phone rang in his ear.
“Pasta, something creamy or with some capers.”
“Yo,” somebody answered from the other line.
“Do me a favor and grab something to eat.”
“From where? You know you ain?—”
“It ain’t for me, Bigs. It’s for Selah. Some pasta or something. Creamy or with capers.” He repeated my words as his grip on my ass tightened.
I heard Bigs’s laughter through the line before he assured Indiri he’d get it and grab him a salad on the side.
“’Preciate that even though I know them lips are loose as shit.”
“With good intentions. Gimme ’bout an hour.”
They hung up seconds later and Indiri dropped his phone between us onto his chest before those serious eyes found mine again.
Under his sight I felt like he saw everything, like just by looking at me he read me like a picture book. It was weird.
“Why do you have a tattoo right here?” I pointed to the side of his face. It was barely there, but visible up close.
“Because I was young, had just won my first fight, and dumb as fuck. Pops cursed my ass out over it too.” He laughed as if recalling a memory.
I shook my head. “It’s faded.”
“Yeah, he took me to get it lasered off. But after that second session, I had to train for a fight and never went back. I figured it would fully fade at some point.”
“Well, it did. Both times I’ve seen it I’ve been all up in your grill.”
He grinned.
“Have you always known you wanted to be a fighter?”
