Cole pinched the bridge of her nose.

“You’re upset because you saw me speaking to someone—”

“You had your arm around her!” I interrupted. It was more than speaking, and she knew it.

“And your response was to what? Humiliate me? Challenge me in public? Try to go home with someone?” she asked, releasing her nose and stalking towards where I still sat on the stool.

I pushed myself unsteadily to my feet.

“If you didn’t want me to drink or interact with other people, why’d you take me to a full moon party?” I asked, furious.

Her top lip rose, revealing sharp canines.

I swallowed.

“You clearly don’t know how to behave,” she said as she stalked into my personal space.

I wobbled. She gripped me tightly.

“I can teach you how to behave. Is that what you want? My attention?” she asked.

“I don’t know,” I admitted.

She growled. I swear I felt the vibration between us.

“You’ve given me a headache,” she said and began to guide me up the stairs.

I shrugged her off.

“I can climb the stairs myself,” I argued.

She released me, stepping back and waving at me in a go-ahead gesture.

I climbed the stairs, clinging to the banister, and turned to face Cole triumphantly when I reached the top.

I wobbled forward and fell against her. She caught me with an arm around my waist, holding me against her, before she climbed the last couple of steps and set me firmly on my feet.

“Get ready for bed. I’ll check on you soon,” she told me, releasing me and pushing me in the direction of my room.

“I don’t need to be checked on,” I muttered as I walked towards my room using the wall as a guide.

Once inside my room, I lay on the bed for just a moment.

Cole shook me gently awake.

“Harriet,” she said quietly but frustratedly.

“What?” I said groggily.

“You can’t sleep like that,” she told me.

I looked at myself and groaned.

“I was just resting,” I said as I sat up. “What are you still doing here?” I asked.

“You need help,” she answered.

“Pfft,” I scoffed. “Stop lying to defend yourself. You don’t care about helping me. What is it you really want? To corner me again, pin me to this bed again, show me how much of an Alpha you are?” I challenged as I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood.
