Sin grabbed my hand, pulling me behind him towards the living room.
“Sup,” Sin spoke, and I smiled and waved before taking a seat in between Bri and PJ.
Bri and Brooklyn kept talking about the game while PJ just sat there looking crazy.
“Come outside with me to get something out of the car.” She nodded and then got up. “I’ll be right back,” I told Sin.
I could immediately see PJ going into defense mode. The way her stance became so strong, I had to tell her to relax. “What’s your problem? You are sitting in there with a whole attitude and don’t say you aren’t because you weren’t even talking to them and you love sports.”
“Why isn’t he here, Mimi?” A whimper escaped her lips as she pouted. “I wanted to talk to him before everything started so we could clear the air but Brooklyn said he’s not coming.” Her shoulders sagged in defeat.
“Penelope, what did you think? You yell at the man like he ain’t shit and tell him to leave you the fuck alone, then you get mad because he does. Make that dumb shit make sense for me, Peeg.”
“He can’t be that mad at me. I’m sure he’s heard worse and still talked to them, so why completely shut me out like this?”
“Zoo loved you, sis, and apparently you are too blind to see that but everyone else did. You fucked this up and you can’t blame anyone but yourself. Now, Mrs. Renee has cooked for us and you need to act like you appreciate it. You’ll figure out what to do to fix things with Zoo sooner or later.”
The front door came open and Bri stepped out. “If this is a kumbaya moment, I’ll stay inside. I’on want to hear about no sad shit today.”
“She’s crying ‘cause Zoo isn’t here,” I told Bri, and we both twisted our lips up.
“Chile yea, I definitely don’t want to hear how she pushed him away and now wants him back. Send him a nipple picture or something to make him reply.”
“Really, Bri? I’m not doing that.”
“Then lay in the bed that you made. Until then, dinner is ready and yours is the one with the one scoop of food on it. Mrs. Renee thought you should know that before you sat in front of Mimi’s full plate.”
Peeg’s mouth hit the floor. “Ahh hell nah. I’m going home.”
“Girl come on, you can have some of mine.” I laughed and pulled her inside behind me. Bri wasn’t lying either. Once we got to the table, I could definitely tell which plate was hers. The whole family was petty as hell.
“Sorry your plate isn’t full, Penelope. I fixed my nephew, Zeus, plate right before yours so he could pick it up since he was unable to come to the dinner. I only had a little bit left after that.”
Peeg’s face fell then she quickly lifted it up with a fake smile. “It’s ok, I’m on a diet anyway,” she lied.
“Ahh great. Everything worked out perfectly then.”
Peeg glanced over at me and rolled her eyes so hard, her eyelids fluttered.
My phone went off, and I slipped it off the table so that only I could see the message, especially since I saw my sister grab her phone.
Peeg:Old Hag, the food look like she unthawed it from last Sunday anyway
Me:Biiiiih, don’t make me start laughing at this table. She’s just playing with you. You hurt her nephew, now you really gotta fix it or you’ll always be left at home when it’s time to eat.
Peeg:Girl and I’ll still eat. What’s going on has nothing to do with her. Now, I don’t like your mother-in-law. How am I supposed to fix that?
Me:Bye, Peeg, we’ll talk later.
The rest of the dinner was cool. My sister ate her little food and then dismissed herself. I didn’t blame her at all. Bri stayed withme for a little while before she and Brooklyn slipped off, leaving Sin and I to sit around with his parents.
“Come in the kitchen with me, Naomi.” I gave Sin theoh shitlook before I got up from the couch and followed her into the kitchen. When I walked in, she pointed towards a chair, telling me to have a seat. My stomach turned at the thought of how this conversation was going to go. The first one we had was cool, but that was before I found out I was pregnant. This one, had my feelings all over the place and she hadn’t opened her mouth yet.
“You’ve been feeling okay?” Mrs. Renee sat a glass of sweet tea in front of me, before taking a seat across the table.
“Yea, I’ve been—"
Before I could finish, she interrupted me. “Don’t lie to me. Sin already told me that you have been cooped up in that room since you got released from the hospital.”
