Touching the camera screen, I flew to the door when I saw my sister and Bri on the other side. Swinging the door open, I damn near jumped into their arms.
“Oh my God, I’ve missed y’all so much. What are you doing here?”
“Zoo called me.”
“And Brooklyn called me.
“Apparently, Sin told them that you were in your feelings because he went out with them, so they insisted that we come over and have a girls night in.”
“Since your ass is scared to come out,” Bri added to PJ’s statement.
“Either way, I just happy to see y’all.”
“We have some treats coming soon. Brooklyn paid for someone to come set up for us to get massages.”
“Hmm, you and Brooklyn are getting real cozy, huh? I heard he drove you to the hospital that night.”
“He did, and we are cool. Nothing to really brag about. He’s cool, though. We’ve been talking and texting a lot since that night. Like a whole lot. Mostly just him checking on me and texting me to say good game and to let me know he was rooting for us. Something that I never got from Teddy. Brooklyn has kept Teddy off my mind. I haven't thought once about if his ass is good or where he’s sleeping.”
“‘Cause we do not care about where he’s sleeping, sis,” PJ told her then took a seat at the bar in the kitchen.
“Girl hush, I know,” Bri retorted.
I missed their pettiness.
“Zoo has a chef coming, too. While we are getting massages, they’ll be cooking. Sin said you stay hungry now so this will be right up your alley.”
“Whatever. You know I’ve been in the bed and doing little to nothing at all. This is the first time I've walked down these stairs since my last doctor’s visit. Once I’m up, I’m up. Sin walks up and down the stairs for me, thanks to the little bell Bri dropped off.” I pulled the bell out of robe pocket.
“Ahh hell nah, Bri!” PJ huffed. “Now you know she’s over here doing the most with this man.”
Bri hunched her shoulders. “I was just trying to make it easier on my girl. If a bell is what she needed then hell, ding-a-ling... a-ling... ling....”
“Yo’ ass is crazy.” I laughed while getting off the barstool to answer the door. Seeing that it was three ladies with tables, I opened it wide to let them in.
“Hey, come in.”
“Thank you,” one of them spoke as they stepped in. “Where can we set up?”
“The living room is big enough for the tables to be side by side. So, in there is fine.” I pointed towards the room.
“We have you guys down for three maternity massages, correct?” the other one asked, causing all of us pause to look at each other.
“Umm, no sweet baby, don’t wish that bad juju on me. It’s just her who’s pregnant.” She nodded towards me. “I am not about to put my life on hold for a hollin’ baby. No ma’am that’s all her.” Pen’s comment caused a frown to stretch across my face while Bri rose to her feet and walked into the living room.
“I can help you guys get set up if you need me to,” Bri told them, just to get away from the daggers I was shooting at my sister with my eyes.
I wasn’t going to address it now, but we were definitely going to talk about what she had just said. If I wasn’t feeling like shit already for even allowing myself to get into this situation knowing my body couldn’t hold a kid, I was feeling like it now. The comment gave off a lot of,she’s the stupid one, not mevibes, and I’ain like that shit one bit, since she feels like I gave up my career for a baby.
Time came and went, and we all enjoyed every minute of it. The guys kept checking in, and I think Sin could tell even through the text messages that I was a little irritated by something. PJ’s words kept barreling through my mind and made the massage, unwanted. Knowing how she felt made me want to climb back into bed and stay there.
“Everything was delicious, thank you,” I told the chef as he packed up, and the girls agreed.
“It was,” my sister added. “We’ll need you to come back one day soon.”
After thanking them again, they finished cleaning up then headed out the door.
Instead of waiting, I decided to jump right into what had been bothering me.
