“I know what that damn well means, Shotgun. Allegra remembers nothing?”
“No,” Shotgun averted his gaze momentarily.
“What aren’t you telling me?”
“I went to see her today, full of piss and righteous anger. Allegra didn’t recognise me. There wasn’t a flicker of recognition. And when I said your name, she thought I meant the weather.”
I closed my eyes in pain.
“Allegra lost it because I pushed her. She mentioned children, Rain, plural, not singular. Either she had twins or another man’s kid as well.”
Shotgun dropped the bombshell. It landed and exploded all over me. Children. There might be twins. Fuck, it could be more. I was a quintuplet. I staggered to a stool and sat my ass down.
“How did you end it?”
“Thatcher arrived and threw me out.”
“Shit.”
“Thatch shared his version of events. I didn’t have time to explain ours.”
“Thatch’s protecting her,” I replied, as much as I hated to admit it.
“Children.”
“Yeah. Knowing Allegra, they’d have to be ours. She was never interested in casual lays or a meaningless relationship. She’s not the type of person to jump from one bed to another.”
“The family will be filling her head,” Shotgun said bitterly. He looked away, and I guessed there was something else the hothead hadn’t told me.
“What?”
“When we fought, I mentioned a lawyer. Thatch claimed that’s why Allegra crashed. Because she was so upset and was crying down to phone to her cousins.”
“Shit! Shotgun! Your damn temper is a curse sometimes,” I exclaimed.
“I know, but it’s been two years, and I fuckin’ miss her,” Shotgun admitted.
“Yeah, we both do. Give Allegra a few days. Imagine how overwhelming this must be. Strangers literally surround her. People, as you did, will speak to her, and she won’t be able to identify them. The entire world is a frightening place for Allegra. It’s been two years, Shotgun, a few more days won’t hurt.”
“I hate it when you’re logical,” Shotgun griped.
“Someone has to be.”
Chapter Ten.
Allegra
“Athreesome? Are you sure? That doesn’t feel right,” I gasped as I stared wide-eyed at Prescott.
“Well, it wasn’t exactly a gangbang, cuz. It’s called a triad relationship. Allegra, you were involved with Rain and Shotgun. That’s why Wade is dark-haired and Darcy red-haired. They have two different fathers, although they’re technically fraternal twins,” Lowell explained.
“Basically, I was a slut,” I stated, and everyone shook their heads.
“No, you were all in a committed relationship,” Prescott replied.
“But we broke up?”
“Yes. Over the Rapid City War and Shotgun’s refusal to bow out,” Gramps said.
