She scrunches up her face, reaches into her pocket, and hurls her camera remote at me.
Misses me by a few feet, but at least her arm works.
CHAPTER 14
OLIVIA
Iam standing upright. I am in the guest room. I am glad I remembered to pack up my vibrator before I had breakfast this morning. I had time to give myself a French bath and change my clothes before finding the tailor and Johnny’s chief of staff in the living room. Iris suggested we come back here for some privacy, since Sanjay and Gracia are still in the house, along with Johnny.
Johnny.
The fuck did that nerd do to me?
This is not okay.
I am not okay with this.
I’mthe hot one.
I’mthe one who’s going to drive him wild.
I’m wearing a stunning black organza gown, which the tailor, a fastidious elderly Asian man, is pinning at the hem.
Iris keeps excusing herself to take calls on her cell phone, but when she returns, she holds up a gorgeous blue gown and says, “This one next.” Then she says, “I have an MBA. I founded and sold two start-ups, but that kid thinks I’m a personal shopper.”
I can tell she’s fond of him, though. And I get it. “He’s the worst,” I say.
“He is the worst. But we can’t very well let Sanjay take care of the clothes shopping and tailoring for a lady.”
“Oh, I ain’t no lady.”
“So we heard…” she says under her breath with a smirk.
“I really appreciate you taking the time to find these dresses,” I say, changing the subject. “I would never have chosen anything this elegant.”
“Yes, well. That’s what John thought. That’s why he asked me to do this.”
“You have excellent taste.”
“Yes. Thank you.” Iris looks at her watch. “I have to get back to the office.” She hands me a business card. “If you need anything, here or when you’re traveling, you call me.”
“All right.”
She steps behind me to unzip the gown I’m wearing and says into my ear, “You’re lovely. I hope he doesn’t blow it with you.”
“Oh. Well. Chances are pretty good he will.”
She pats me on the shoulder. “Yeah. Hang in there.” Then she bends down to say to the tailor, “I’m leaving now, Mr. Chen.”
Iris explains to me that Mr. Chen will finish the tailoring at his office and then FedEx the dresses to John’s apartment in New York.
“Have a nice trip,” she says as she walks out. “Don’t let that boy drive you nuts.”
Too late.
