I train year-round so hell week isn’t terrible for me, but some of those guys take advantage of the summer break to let loose and end up paying for it as soon as we’re back in session. I mean, hell, the season doesn’t even start until February and we’re already doing conditioning in September.

I groan when I walk in the front door of our apartment. I thought about stopping at the omegas door first but then realized that might come off a little more creepy than I want, so I resisted the urge and came home instead.

As soon as I drop my bag on the floor, I notice the smell of bread baking. It takes a few seconds before I realize why that would be when Parker hasn’t made anything in months.

She returned the note.

A massive grin breaks out on my face as I skid into the kitchen, barely missing slamming into Pax. “Fuck, sorry man. Got too excited.”

Parker snorts. “It’s okay, Mack. Not everyonecan break out of the two-pump-chump stage. I’m sure you can make up for it in other ways.”

My grin morphs into a scowl. “Fuck off, Park. I haven’t even?—”

He rolls his eyes, going back to staring at the loaf of bread in the oven. “Yeah, yeah. You’re a blushing virgin. We know.”

I can feel heat rising to my cheeks, and even Paxton turns a glare on his brother. “Too far, Parker.”

The surly twin sighs, finally pulling his attention away from the oven. “I’m sorry. I’m on edge and that was a dick thing to say, even for me.”

It’s easy to shrug it off. I love these guys like they’re my brothers, and Parker’s moods don’t normally bother me. That’s just a sore spot I try to avoid thinking about whenever I can. Being a virgin at twenty-two is embarrassing. At first I was too focused on baseball to notice girls, and then by the time I finally did notice them, Jude and my family were in my ears about cleat chasers and wrapping it up so I didn’t end up tied to someone who only wanted me for my pro potential. It just never felt like it was worth the effort for a few hours of fun.

Swiftly changing the subject, I grin at my pack mates. “You’re baking bread. Sourdough, if my nose is right. Does this mean the omega returned the note?”

Paxton’s eyes light up as he nods, and I see a matching, though much more subdued, spark of excitement in Parker’s equally light blue eyes. “She did. It’s right there if you want to read her response,” Pax says giddily. Their sugary candy scents swell with their excitement and meld together, nearly overpowering the scent of fresh baked bread that fills the kitchen.

My brows jump. “She? And there’s a response note?” My heart does summersaults in my chest. It’s killing me that I don’t know anything about my scent match, but my searchresults yielded absolutely nothing since the student records are locked up tighter than Fort Knox.

Parker nods with a slight shrug. “I could be wrong, but the handwriting is feminine and my gut seems convinced she’s a she.”

Picking up the note, I take stock of the pretty, looping handwriting. He’s right, it’s definitely feminine. But it’s the words that have me sighing like a lovesick fool. I shove the paper to my face and take a big inhale. “Jesus, would it be weird to use this paper to jack off with later?” Between her scent and her words, I think any paper cuts I get might be worth it. “She wants to make usscarves. That is the cutest fucking thing I’ve ever heard in my life.” An idea occurs to me, and my dick swells even more. “Do you think the scarves would have her scent on them, too?”

The guys, who were making identical expressions of exasperation at my question, freeze. Their faces are shocked like they didn’t think of that possibility. I slam the note down on the counter and check yes, immediately writing a follow up.

Sweetheart of 2A,

We’re tucking this note in with the sourdough loaf my pack mate spent all day baking. He has his own sourdough starter and everything. I’ll let him tell you the name though. It’s hilarious watching him get all embarrassed about it.

You certainly don’t have to do anything for us, but I think I speak for my entire pack when I say anything you crocheted for us would be cherished and worn every single day.

I’m going to dropoff coffee with your bread. Do you like coffee? Our entire pack has a serious caffeine problem, so we would be happy to get you something any time we’re at Sugar & Spice (our favorite local café)

Hope to meet you soon,

M

“Doesit sound like we’re trying too hard?” I ask, passing the note to Paxton. Parker reads over his shoulder, and they both smile. “You shouldn’t change yourself for anyone, Mack. I think it sounds like you and I’m sure she’ll love that,” Paxton reassures me. “Maybe we can even get a fun basket to put it in? Based on the glittery pen she used to write her notes, I’d be willing to bet her favorite color is pink, so what if we go find a pink basket for the bread and note and then drop it off on her step with a coffee tomorrow morning? It’s Saturday, so she might get to enjoy it right away.”

I let out a breath of relief. I know my personality can be a lot, but maybe she’ll like that. After all, someone needs to balance out the other dwarves: shy, grumpy, and hostile.

A timer goes off, and Park pulls the loaf out of the oven. “It’s ready, but it needs to cool for at least fifteen minutes before we drop it off just in case she cuts into it right away. I don’t want her to burn herself.”
