“Hang that last bag,” I order, taking my mate’s hand in mine and squeezing as my healing abilities start to work on her.
“You just bit her,” Claire whispers.
I swallow hard.“She's my mate.It was the only way.”
They both nod, and I get to work on closing her up.I know my advanced healing abilities have been passed to her now that I’ve claimed her. She’ll be weak, but she should survive.
“Last bag is up,” Melanie says.
I squeeze my mate’s hand again.Come on, baby.I just found you.I can’t lose you.
I watch her face, my eyes flicking to the monitors every few seconds. Finally, I let out a deep breath when I see her stats improving.
Claire and Melanie clean the room around me, but I don’t move.I’m not leaving my mate’s side. Not until she’s fully mine.
She is fully ours,my wolf reminds me.
I swallow hard. She’s human. She doesn’t understand any of this. She’s going to be freaked out and pissed that we didn’t give her a choice in any of this.
She’ll see reason,he retorts.
I roll my eyes at his arrogant attitude and return my attention to my mate. With every improvement of her vitals, a part of me relaxes.
We might be over the worst of the damage, but I know that when she wakes up, we’ll have another problem to make right.
Making her mine.
For real.

Quinn
I wakewith a gasp and a wince.
Pain radiates through my chest at the sharp inhale, and I blink away tears as I open my eyes.
Where am I?I think as I look around the plain white room.
A window is to my left, but all I can see are trees and bushes. Two doors are on my right, one of which is a bathroom. An annoying beep, beep, beepdraws my attention, and I look up to see a monitor next to me.On it, numbers and lines blip, showing my heart rate and oxygen level.
Hospital.I’m in a hospital.
I remember now—the hike, the clearing, the loud bang, and the pain in my chest.I was shot.
Jesus, this vacation is already off to a rough start.I should have stayed in New York.
I take a shallow breath, testing what causes the pain in my chest to worsen.Breathing seems to be okay now, and I relax slightly.
It’s so quiet in here. The last time I was in a hospital, it was loud and chaotic.I tripped over the uneven sidewalk and broke my wrist.I spent hours in the emergency room waiting to be seen, waiting for X-rays, and waiting to be discharged.Through it all, People hurried in every direction as machines beeped steadily and announcements echoed over the PA.
Maybe it’s quiet here because this is such a small town.I can’t imagine them having too many patients here in Night Grove Falls.
I brace my hands on the mattress and try to sit up.
“Shit!”I shout when it feels like my side is being ripped open.
I startle as the door bangs open, and a handsome man bursts into the room, making a beeline for my side.
