Jeez, this is a lot.I mean, I saw him shift with my own eyes, and I can still barely believe that any of this is real. It’s a lot to wrap my head around.
“I know this all seems crazy, but it’s real,” he says, seeming to read my mind.
What the heck do I do now?I wonder.I had no idea what I wanted to do with my future before today. And I certainly don’t know what to do now that a shifter fated mate has been added to the mix.
“Dr.McAdams!We need a hand out here!”Melanie calls.
Christian glares at the door, then returns his gaze to me.He steps closer, resting his palms on the blankets as he leans over me, caging me in with his arms.
“I’m not running,” I declare before he can say anything.
“Good.I’d catch you before you made it out of the parking lot.”
“Noted.”
He studies my face, then nods.“I’ll be back as soon as I can.Stay put.”
With that, he turns and stalks out of the room.
SIX
Christian
I leaveQuinn’s room to see what Melanie needs and am surprised to find her with a few of the guys from Midnight Haven in the lobby.
“What’s happened?”I ask, rushing to them.
“No sign of whoever shot your mate,” Abe tells me.
My mouth curls up in a snarl.
“Yeah, my thoughts exactly,” Reyes agrees.“We called in a few of the guys.Logan, Knox, and Cooper are out there now.We haven’t heard back yet, but I doubt they’ve found anything we missed.”
“We’re having a meeting tomorrow morning at the cabin,” Russo says.
“I’ll try to make it.”
Abe looks past me down the hall.“How’s your mate?”
“She’s good.Healing.”
“We heard a rumor about a female patient escaping,” Reyes says, biting back a smile.
“Yeah, she took a little walk,” I snap.
He tries to hide his laughter with a cough.
Russo narrows his gaze on me.“Does she know?”
I understand what he’s asking.“I just told her.”
“Is that why she was running?”Reyes asks.
“Yep.”
Reyes smirks.“So, you did a great job of explaining it.”
I glare at him.“I can’t wait for you to find your fated mate.I’ll enjoy watching you explain all this to your girl,” I bark.
