“I love you so much, Papá.”
Chapter 5
Stone
“Who is that?” I inch toward the edge of the roof for a better look.
Dark brown curls spill down a woman’s back like layers of silk laid over barrels, starting at the top of her head and falling to the middle of her back. My eyes fixate on her like a laser locked on a target. They move down her back, and my breath catches at the sight of her plump, round backside. Her booty bounces behind her with pride, daring me to bury myself inside.
I struggle to place this woman, who’s captured my attention like no one has, but nothing about her is familiar. Not the shape of her body or her sensual gait as she sashays along the sidewalk with her hair swaying from side to side. If I had seen her before, I’d recognize her, or at least the energy radiating from her. This woman’s supernaturally charged curves have a magnetic force pulling me toward her as if I’m trapped between invisible hands that will shatter me if I resist.
“Don’t know,” Magnus answers, pulling my stalker-like attention from the woman as I break her spell to glare at him momentarily.
“Huh?”
“You asked a question, I answered.”
“I did?”
Erik chuckles. “Finally. A female has caught your eye.”
“No, she didn’t.” I lie, taking a quick glance at the eye-catching beauty.
“Then why are you inquiring about her? And turning back every two seconds to see where she’s going?”
Shit, they noticed.
“I'm not. I’m bored handing you tools, and I happened to spot her. It’s my duty as a guardian of the town to evaluate if she’s a threat.”
“The only thing a woman like that is a threat to is your ego,” Magnus interjects.
“My—How?”
“You’re ego.” Eric draws the words out like I either didn’t hear them or am too stupid to recognize them. “When she turns you down.”
“She’s not going to turn me down, because I have no interest in her.”
“Sure you don’t.” If Magnus doesn’t shut his mouth, I’ll kick him right off this roof.
“She probably has a boyfriend anyway,” I mutter, hating that I said it out loud.
“You can ask when you meet with her,” Eric taunts with a wide smile. This earns him a dirty look. Boss or no boss, there are lines between us, and he’s about to cross one.
“I’m not going near her.”
