“I really fucked up, but in my defense, I didn’t think I could father a girl.”
“Did you try talking to her?”
“She won’t pick up my calls.”
“And in person?”
“She won’t come out of Ness’s house, and Ness won’t let me in. Tells me I need to give Sarah time and space to come around. That she’s working on her, but shouldn’tIbe working on her? I’m the one who screwed up. Besides, she’s carryingmychild. I want to be part of her life. Of their lives.”
“Is she coming tonight?”
“Nope. Spending Turkey day with her Mom and brother. She told Ness to inform me that if I showed up, she wouldn’t move onto the compound this summer orever.”
“Does she have a choice?”
“Yes and no. She’s still at college, so she has an excuse to stay back.”
“Have you tried writing her an email or a letter? Maybe if you put your feelings on paper—”
“That’s such a chick thing to do.”
I splayed my hands on my hips. “Maybe it’s a chick thing to do, because chicks like nice words.”
“I’m a man of action, not words.”
“Well, your actions aren’t reaping any results, so maybe try words.”
He scratched his jaw that was in serious need of a shave. “Like what do I say: my bed’s mighty cold since you left, and I want to see your belly and breasts get big?”
Storm was zoning out, sucking on his thumb.
“Um,no. That’s basically telling her you miss the sex and—”
“I do miss the sex.”
“Andyou’re excited to see her get fat.”
He cocked the eyebrow slashed with a scar. “Fat? I talked about her belly and boobs. Shit, her boobs are going to get massive.”
I stared and stared at him, because he was the most uncouth person I’d ever met, and I lived among shifters, who were more in touch with their animal sides than with their human. Not to mention I hadfourbrothers. “Lycaon, you really have no filter.”
“I’m a fervent ambassador of honesty. And who the hell’s Lycaon?”
“The god of all wolves.” I frowned. “Don’t you worship them, too?”
“Them?”
“Lycaon is genderless.”
He joggled his head. “OBs worship the moon and our Alpha; most definitely not an imaginary god.”
I was about to say Lycaon wasn’t imaginary, that there were many texts mentioning our god, but didn’t feel like debating this at the moment. “Look, I’m no relationship expert, but you have to make her feel loved, because you obviously love her for more than the sex.”
A beat.
“Right?”
“Fuck yeah.”
