From the outside, the new homes looked almost finished, but apparently the insides were still bare concrete.
I called Niall’s phone as I reached the new path spiraling up the hill. “Which house are you in?”
“Number ten.”
“Which one is number ten?”
“The one with the best panorama.”
“That doesn’t help me much, Niall. They all have great views.”
“The one with the curved living room window and 360 view. Kolane’s.”
Oh.“Could’ve led with that.”
“I was afraid you might not show if I’d led with that.”
“My dislike of him doesn’t extend to his future home.”
I bumped along the unfinished road till I reached the giant cabin and parked in the giant driveway. “I’m out front.”
“Come inside. You need to check out this view.”
“Niall, what I need is to get back so I can finish getting ready. I’ll go inside some other time.”
Or not.I didn’t see myself dropping by for a visit or a tour in the near future.
“Come on, Nik. It’s really something.”
I sighed a, “Fine,” and disconnected the call. “Niall?” I called out as I stepped past the unlocked front door, ducking beneath scaffolding and exposed electrical wires.
My stomach went back to acting up, probably because I was trespassing even though I doubted Liam would mind I was visiting the empty shell of his house.
I was about to call out my brother’s name again when I spotted him standing by the strip of curved glass, decked in jeans and a black T-shirt. “What the hell? You said you were wearing . . .” The rest of my sentence faded into breath as the man turned.
It wasn’t my brother.
Chapter 66
“Um. Sorry. I didn’t know you’d be here.” I hugged my red jacket close as though it could somehow shield me from Liam’s intent stare. “I was looking for Niall.” Something occurred to me then, and I cocked my head to the side. “Did you also forget your car?”
“No.”
“So why did he callmefor a ride?”
“Because I asked him to.” At my frown, he added, “I needed to talk with you.”
My jaw went slack.Niall was such a traitor!Liam may have been his Alpha, but I was his sister. Sister trumped Alpha. “Liam, I told you already—”
“Give me ten minutes.”
I chewed on the inside of my cheek and eyed the front door, digging through my mind for ways to get Niall back, because my brother would definitely pay for setting me up.
Please.
“Fine. Talk.”
Liam rubbed his jaw, slid it from side to side.
