The bunker door creaked open, and Reese popped her head inside. “Pack’s here, Liam.”
Her gaze went to Bea, and her eyebrows shot up. I was guessing she was surprised to find her fully dressed. Or was it the fact that she still breathed that startled her?
Liam tugged off his shirt. “If you want to run, Nate, Lucas can stay here with her.”
Bea rolled the hem of my T-shirt between her fingers. “Can’t I go home?”
“No.” Liam’s tone brooked no argument. “Not until we understand what you’ve become.”
She cringed.
Without breaking eye contact, Nate said, “I’ll stay with her.”
“Do you need Lucas to pocket the key, or will you be able to resist opening the cell?” Liam unbuckled his belt, then popped the button of his jeans open, and shoved them down.
Even though he wasn’t stripping for me, and my entire family was present, albeit making their way toward the bunker’s door, I couldn’t, for the life of me, tear my gaze away from the man.
“I’ll resist,” Nate said.
“’Kay.” Lucas ambled over. “Lookin’ cute all two-toned, Knickknack.” Lucas ruffled the fur atop my head as he walked past me on two legs.
I snarled at him, which only increased his smirk.
“Have fun tonight. I know I will.” He looked over his shoulder at the wall of black fur standing beside me. “Yes, boss. Little Destroyer will remain Sarah’s and my utmost priority.” He winked and then he was gone.
Metal groaned as Nate unfolded a metal chair and propped it beside the cell. Bea sank to her knees in front of him and reached out until her fingertips touched his knee. He jerked, but instead of pulling back, he placed his hand atop hers.
Liam’s breath disrupted the velvety fur behind my ear.You smell like me.
I shivered from the feather-light tickle of his heavy breath.I didn’t have time for a shower.
Good.
I stretched my head until my nose ruffled his thick, black coat.Didn’t have time for a shower too, huh?
I had plenty of time, Silver.
Silver?
The color of your eyes. They’re platinum. He dipped his head until it was leveled with mine.Just like when you’re aroused.
Oh.My pulse purred.Might not want to talk about that right now. I’m already feeling . . . sensitive.
He ran his nose across my body, touching me with only his breaths. Suddenly, he swung his head back toward mine. You’re in heat!
Had I gone into heat without noticing? That would be a first.
As we made our way toward the door, I twisted my head and took a deep inhale. No, I’m not.Relief swarmed me because I didn’t want to be relegated to the cold pod tonight. I wanted the freedom to race alongside the pack, alongside Liam.
Then why do you smell like—he gnashed his teeth—that?
A rotting carcass?
What?
You look disgusted.
His glowing eyes narrowed.Trust me. I’m not disgusted. I’m the opposite of disgusted.
