“I didn’t bring him anywhere, and he’s not thinking about you. He didn’t want me coming over here alone, and what he says goes,” I smirked. I could have sworn I saw smoke coming out of Corey’s ears.
“You got a man?” Imani asked. “Oh, that’s funny ‘cus this bastard claimed that you were keeping the kids from him because you were mad that he moved on.”
Despite my concern for the girls and how annoyed I was, I couldn’t help but to laugh. In fact, I had a good laugh at thebullshit that Imani had spewed. Her and Corey both stared at me like I was crazy as I cackled loudly.
“Baby less than a month after I left this man, he proposed to me in front of his family, friends, and our daughters. I told him NO. If I wanted him, I could have him, but that man over there in that Lambo has been taking very good care of me. In fact, when your man found out I was dealing with someone, he stopped coming to get the girls because he was trying to cockblock. If I had any advice to give you, it would be to stop listening to this lame ass nigga.”
A police car pulled up, and I pushed out a deep sigh. Leaving them to deal with their drama, I walked into the house. “Mommy!” Sky gasped with wide eyes. She looked so happy to see me. They were lined up on the couch in their pajamas.
“Y’all ready to go home?”
“Yes!” They shot up off the couch and ran to their room to get their things. They weren’t even sad about leaving. That told me a lot.
When we walked outside, two police officers were present. One was talking to Corey, and the other was talking to Imani. I rushed the girls past and in the car, I looked back at them. “I’m sorry you had to see this foolishness. Were you scared?”
Star spoke up. “I kind of was when daddy was yelling, but then when Imani hit him in the head with the frying pan, I thought daddy was hurt, and I started crying.”
“Wow.” I ran my tongue across my top row of teeth. Trying to remain calm was hard. “Have you met Ms. Imani before?” I didn’t like the slut, but she was still my kids’ elder.
“No, but daddy said she was his new girlfriend, and that we were going to have a new brother or sister,” Serenity volunteered.
“And how do you feel about that?”
“I don’t like Ms. Imani,” Sky replied.
“We can finish talking about this tomorrow. I’m going to get you girls home.”
The mother freakin’ ghetto.
I wasn’t ready to introduce the girls to Hymn just yet, but I did take them to a football game with Josie. They were excited about it, and I was happy to be able to watch my man play. Christmas was approaching, and he’d given me $3,000 to shop for the girls. I was tired of telling him that he didn’t have to give me money. I was taking everything he offered with a smile on my face. I had done four of the WAG’s makeup before the game. I also had another MUA come in and ask me about working at the makeup bar and paying me monthly suite rent.
Thankfully, most days, I was able to knock out whatever Alisa needed me to do in less than four hours. That job didn’t take up too much of my time, and the pay came in handy. The girls were so excited they could hardly be still.
“Sky, you’re going to drop your hot dog, baby. Calm down. It’s okay,” I laughed.
“Any word from bitch boy?” Josie asked in a low tone.
“Girl,” I drawled. “Come to find out, they both got arrested and had to do forty-eight hours. As soon as he was released, he sent me a long text message saying that he was done with her. He was wildin’ and doing dumb shit when I left him, but he wants his family back, and he’ll forgive me for dealing with another man.”
Josie stared at me with a slack jaw. “Crack. Is it crack? That man has to be on drugs.”
“The only good thing about it is that I don’t think the girls are too pressed to go back with him, so I won’t have to lie and make excuses for him or deal with attitudes when he doesn’t show.”
“Even the kids see how lame he is.”
“According to Alisa, when Imani got out of jail, she was told by her manager that she had been let go. She’s missed too much time out of work and had been given more than enough grace. She was crying to her mother that she doesn’t even want the baby, but it’s too late for her to have an abortion.”
“Poor stink,” Josie replied sarcastically. “She was so happy to have him and so elated to call him her man. She got just what she signed up for.”
“None of that has anything to do with me. I’m trying to figure out how to go to Greece with Hymn for a week when the season is over. He’s going for three weeks, but I for sure can’t stay that long.”
“What are the dates? As long as I’m not traveling myself, I’ll stay at your house with the girls, so they can ride the bus to and from school per usual.”
“Really sister?” I asked with a huge smile on my face.
“Girl, don’t piss me off,” she frowned.
I was so glad that it was an unusually warm day for winter. I absolutely despised the cold. Maybe for next season I’d invest in a fur or something. I still couldn’t get over the fact that I was a WAG. Despite my new status, I was still me. Of course, I wouldn’t attend a game looking thrown away, but there would be no heels or super extravagant ensembles. I was clad in dark grey cargo pants, a pink hoodie, and pink, black, and white sneakers. My hair was in long box braids that stopped past my behind.
