I told her the same thing I told Hymn. When I was done talking, all I heard was silence. I had to check and make sure the call was still connected. Finally, Josie spoke.

“You keep letting that fuck nigga off way too easy. Not only does he continue to gaslight you now, he’s doing it in front of the kids. That is not okay. I swear I can’t stand him. He is so trifling!”

“Since he wants to play games, I have something for him. I won’t tell my kids that he cheated on me, but I will tell them that daddy wasn’t treating mommy right, and I decided I wanted to be by myself. If they don’t understand that, they’ll just have to continue to pout. I’m not taking Corey back just for the kids. That shit will never happen.”

“And I don’t blame you. Audacity is at an all-time high. I really can’t believe him. I do have a confession though.”

My pulse quickened, and I released a small groan.

“It’s nothing bad,” Josie rushed out. “But Corey reached out to me and mommy about two weeks ago. He didn’t say he was going to propose, but he said he wanted to surprise you. He wanted us to be there, and we both told him no. I was assuming he dropped it. I didn’t know how you would react to a surprise from him, but I wasn’t going to play a part in blind siding you like that.”

I chuckled angrily while sucking my teeth. “Since he couldn’t get any of my people on board, he lied on Sky saying my baby was sick.”

“Just when I think he can’t get any lamer, he goes and does something to prove me wrong. How far are you from Mr. Sexy’s condo?” I could hear the smile in her tone.

“I have about four miles to go. You at Jen’s house?”

“I just pulled up.”

“Okay. Enjoy your game night. Traffic is light out this way, so I’ll be at Hymn’s condo in less than five minutes.”

“Have sex. I meant fun. Have fun!”

“Goodbye,” I giggled ending the call.

I felt much better, and that almost made me wonder if I had overreacted. But nah, I hadn’t. I had a right to be angry. It was all good though because I was done being nice to Corey. The very next time he made me mad, he was going to get a piece of my mind right then and there, and I didn’t give a damn who was around.

I texted Hymn that I was in the parking garage, and he texted me back the code to the building. When I came over for dinner, he’d also given me a code to in. The codes for visitors were only valid for twenty-four hours. We received a different code each time. Which that really didn’t bother me because there was no way I’d ever pop up to his place uninvited. On the way to the elevator in the lobby, I also made up my mind that I was going to Atlanta next weekend. If Corey flaked and didn’t get the girls, I was going to take Josie up on her offer. The days of sitting around crying and being sad were over. No matter what good happened, I still woke up each morning with a heavy heart. I was still upset at how my life had turned out when it came to Corey. The pain my breakup caused me was something that I didn’t care to ever feel again.

Hymn opened the door shirtless, and my mouth watered. Shit, he was muscular as hell. When he grabbed my hand, pulled me over the threshold, and wrapped his huge arms around me, I melted against him. He smelled so good, and the hold he had on me was taking me places I wasn’t sure I was ready to go.

“You feel better?” he asked still holding me tight.

Lifting my head, I peered up at him and smiled. “I actually do.”

“Good. I’m going to let you go now before you feel something you don’t want to feel.”

“Who said I don’t want to feel it?” the moment the question left my mouth, my body grew warm. It had been more than eight years since I had sex with anyone other than Corey. I wascompletely sober, so I couldn’t even blame what I’d just said on alcohol.

Hymn’s brows hiked. “You been drinking?”

With a giggle, I bashfully shook my head. “I haven’t. I’m completely sober.”

“You think sleeping with me is going to help you get over ole boy? Make him jealous? Talk to me.”

“I appreciate you wanting to make sure that I’m sure, but sex with you can’t help me get over him. Only time can do that. And I can’t sleep with you to make him jealous if he doesn’t know I slept with you. I just want to feel like a grown ass woman. With a man that wants to sleep with me because he finds me desirable and not because it’s a chore that he needs to do in order to get a quick nut.”

Something in my speech activated Hymn’s aggressive side, and my stomach caved in as he gently wrapped his fingers in my curls and gripped a handful of my hair. He nicked my bottom lip gently before snaking his tongue into my mouth and kissing me passionately. The tongue kiss we shared was more intense than Corey had kissed me in years. The kiss got deeper and harder. My pussy throbbed while the fabric of my shirt against my hard nipples sent tiny volts of electricity through my core.

Hymn’s grip on my hair tightened as he kissed the corner of my lips, then my chin, before dragging his mouth over and sucking on my neck. Taking my hand he placed it on his rock-hard manhood.

“You sure you want this?” he mumbled against my neck.

“Yes,” I whispered eyes closed enjoying the way he was handling me.

Hymn removed my shirt. Despite giving birth once and pumping breast milk for three babies for six months, my B cup breasts weren’t saggy. My shirt was thick enough that I went braless, and no one could tell. With a lustful gleam in his eyes ashis orbs darted over my bare breasts, Hymn licked his lips before taking one into his mouth.

I wasn’t able to suppress the moan that had been building since he kissed me. “Brion,” Hymn released the hold he had on my hair and placed his hand around my neck. Squeezing lightly, he pressed his forehead against mine. “The things I want to do you,” he breathed lowly. “I’m giving you one more chance to change your mind.”
