Farrah scoffs. “Traitor!”

I continue walking to the back of the building, finding an exit, and bringing us outside.

“I’m going to kick your ass,” Farrah says.

I lean in, my mouth just inches from hers. “Oh yeah, little mouse?”

“Yeah. Put me down so I can punch you.”

“Tempting, but there’s something I need to do first.”

I slip off her black heeled shoes, letting them fall to the ground. I kick them up against the wall, out of the way.

“Why are you taking my shoes off?”

She huffs and rolls her eyes.

“Because I’m putting you in time out.”

I extend my wings and bend my knees.

Then catapult us into the sky.

Chapter 6 – Farrah

Iscream bloody murder when we’re airborne.

Locheran shifts me around so I can wrap my short legs around his waist. I don’t even care that my ass is likely hanging out now that my dress has rolled up my hips. I cling onto the gargoyle as tight as I can and bury my face into his chest, holding my breath and praying to any god who will listen that this monster won’t drop me.

I’m not sure how long we ascend but when the air stops whizzing past my ears and it feels like we’re floating, I slowly lift my head. We’re high above Brooklyn with the East River and the sparkling lights of the Brooklyn Bridge below us.

It’s beautiful.

And terrifying.

I rest my forehead on Locheran’s shoulder and take deep breaths, attempting to calm my nerves. His scent fills my nose: campfire, vanilla, cedar, and hints of citrus.

Jesus H. Christ he smells fantastic.

“Do I smell good?” he asks with a soft chuckle.

“No.”

“Your cunt says otherwise.”

I swallow hard and lift my head again. “You can… smell me?”

I mean, I knew supernatural beings had enhanced hearing and sight, but I didn’t even think about enhancedsmell. It makes sense. They’re primal… predators… the top of the food chain.

“Yes,” Locheran says, his face barely an inch from mine. His warm breath fans across my lips and I unwillingly lick them.Minty.“Humans give off unique scents. They don’t realize how irresistible they are to monsters, especially when scared… or turned on. Those emotions are… near intoxicating.”

He closes his eyes and inhales deeply.

“You’re equally scared and turned on right now.”

He winks, and I can’t stop the smile tugging at my lips. This is the most Locheran has ever spoken to me. This is the mostI’veever spoken to the gargoyle. Well, the mostI remember since I’m sure I said something dumb when I got drunk at Evangeline’s wedding reception.

At least I remember kissing him and loving it.
