We scramble to get to Joshua, using the limo as cover. Another bullet wings past Duncan and me as we prepare to run the last bit. I make it to Joshua's body and grab him and drag him behind the counter. Duncan is on his phone with his 9mm in his other hand. He's trying to get between the shooter and me. Several more bullets rain down on us. Glass shatters around us.

I'm checking Joshua for bullet holes, pushing my skirt into a position where I can work on him. I finally find where the blood is coming from. He’s been shot in his upper arm, just below the shoulder, a through and through.

"I'm fucking okay, let me go and take cover." He comes to, he must have hit his head when he fell. "Damn, I hate getting shot, and this is my favorite tux." Yep, he's okay. Just then, the elevator door opens and I swing my gun that way. "They're with me, Maya."

I lower my weapon and notice the same dark-haired man from the pub—Raul—holding a compact machine gun and a tall guy with longish brown hair carrying an assault rifle. They take defensive positions aimed at the door. Duncan is trying to getin front of me again, this time so they can't see my exposed legs. I'm going to kick his ass if he doesn't stop this bullshit.

"Bossman, I ran security checks and called the coppers. It appears that the shooter has ran. Do I need to ring an ambulance?" the tall guy says.

"No, Timothy, you can patch it up. It’s just a scratch. I hit my head when I fell forward, though. Maya and Duncan, are you both okay?"

"We're good. Maya asked me a question that had me lower into the limo and saved the bullet from hitting me." All eyes turn to me.

"I just had a feeling I was being watched. I can't figure it out, but something told me to ask you to bend down." I know it would sound crazy to most people, but to trained soldiers who rely on that sixth sense it was okay to say.

"Timothy, Duncan, get me off this floor and upstairs. Maya, you go to Duncan's flat and we will head off the police. And hand that gun back to Duncan before we have more problems. Where's Ian?"

"He's on a bender. I was getting ready to go get him," Raul says.

"Okay, Raul, go get him, then meet us in my flat. We need to discuss this. Maya, I'll have Duncan text you when it's safe for you to come to my flat."

I hate being told what to do. I know he's doing it to avoid the police bringing me into the situation, but I fight for myself. I start to fight him when I see Duncan. I hand Duncan his gun, pull up my dress on one leg, and pull out a Bowie throwing knife. All the guys are watching me.

"Bossman, I'm going to take Maya to my flat, I'll meet you atyours in a few." His eyes are smoldering, he wants to make sure I'm okay and plant himself inside me to prove we're both alive. I’ve seen this look before, but never had it directed at me. I feel the same way. I want to strip him naked and make sure none of the bullets touched him. Joshua looks between the both of us.

"You have thirty minutes," he growls. "Timothy, pull up all the surrounding cameras and see if you can find our shooter."

Duncan helps Timothy pull Joshua to his feet and we all pile into the elevator. Raul takes off for Ian.

Duncan and I get off on his floor and walk toward his flat. We're barely in the door and Duncan is leaning over me.

"I've wanted you since you walked out of that room earlier, but now, I need to make sure you're okay. Strip and show me." His commands have me wet and breathing heavily.

I want him so bad. I put my knife on the hall table as I walk through to the living room. I reach behind me, pull the zipper down from my lower back to my butt, unhook the halter collar with the heavy jewelry, and drop my dress. I'm standing in front of him in my matching deep plunge strapless bra, panties, garter belt, stockings, and heels.

"All off, baby. If I knew you were wearing that under your dress, we'd have never made it out of the flat this evening," he growls as he strips his tux.

I pull my leg up on the coffee table, unhook my garter and slide my stocking to my shoe. As I unhook my shoe, I pull it and my stocking off. I do the same with my other leg, then I unhook my garter belt and bra. I finally grab my panties with my thumbs and slide them down my body. I can hear his breathing increase as each garment is dropped.

He steps closer to me, picks me up, and I wrap my legsaround his naked hips. He pushes into me as he lays me on the coffee table. It's a large piece of wood with marble accents and holds our weight as he buries himself deep inside me. He's pulling out and pushing in before I have caught my breath from the first entry. The energy is charged with both our adrenaline rush and passion.

"Oh God, baby, when I heard that bullet whistle by me, all I thought was I was losing you." I hear his words as my body starts to tighten around him with my first orgasm.

"I know what you mean. When you fell on me, I thought I lost you. Duncan, please don't leave me." This is the most I've confessed to him, but I can't keep the feelings to myself anymore. I couldn't stand to lose him. "I'm worried that shot was meant for you because of me. Duncan, send me away! I don't want to leave you, but I don't want to lose you either."

"Baby, it's going to take more than a wanker with a bad aim to take me from you," he growls as he continues his assault on my body.

He's pushing into me so fast and hard now, I'm starting on my second orgasm when he reaches down and pulls my legs up to his shoulders, causing a deeper penetration. He thrusts into me a couple more times and I scream his name as he yells mine. He lets my legs drop and rests his knees on the floor, lying on my body. He broke our connection right after he came, and I feel the loss. This man does something to me. I can't be without him, but I need to protect him. Am I willing to leave him to save him? His arms tighten around me as if he knows what I'm thinking.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

DUNCAN

Ileave Maya to take a shower and head up to Joshua's penthouse flat. I didn't want to leave her. I knew those bullets were meant for me, but they were close to her too. This person wants to hurt her in any way possible.

I can't believe she said for me to send her away. The thought of her not being a part of my life makes me crazy. When I enter the flat, it's a flurry of activity. Ian is getting sobered up, Joshua is pacing, and Timothy is tapping into his computers.

"Are you okay, Bossman?"
