"Bloody hell!" I pull her off my lap and walk to my pants to fish out my cell. "This had better be important, mate. I'm a little busy," I bark, knowing he'll explain quickly.
"Duncan, we've got a problem. You need to meet me at the pub in Surrey right now. Joshua is trying to kill the barman."
"Bloody hell, I'll be there in forty-five." I turn to Maya as I hang up.
"Let me shower quickly and I'll go with you."
"No time, baby, just get dressed."
"Honey, I smell like sex and you."
"Damn straight. Get dressed, Maya."
She doesn't argue with me, she just goes into the room to dress, then meets me at the front door. She's dressed in her jeans, tennis shoes, and my maroon sweater. I grab her hand and we head out.
Joshua must be plastered to cause a row with the barman. He's known that guy for years. It ends up taking us over forty minutes to get to the pub. When we pull up, Maya has a strange look on her face.
"Why are we here?" she asks.
"This is where Joshua comes when he wants to get plastered and reminisce about the past."
"Really? Weird. This is the pub that Ana and I used to come to. It's the one we were talking about before the wedding."
"Small world, I guess." I grab her hand and we walk into the pub. Raul is holding Joshua back. Joshua is yelling at the barman.
"You bloody bastard, do you know what you've done? He'll kill her." Joshua sounds like he has definitely partaken in too much.
"Maya, is that you?" The barman rushes to my girl, pulling her from my grasp and into his arms.
"Listen here, you bloody bastard, let my girl go or I'll break your arms," I growl, and Maya just hugs the smarmy bastard back.
"Patrick, it's been so long. Duncan, honey, this is Patrick." She acts like there isn't anything wrong with the fact that now both Joshua and I want to kill this wanker.
"Baby, please step back." I try to control my anger.
"Duncan, stop, he's an old friend. Your sister knows him."
"Ana was here today. My lucky day, both my beauties coming to see me," Patrick pipes in.
"What?" both Maya and I say to him.
"Yes, she stopped by for a visit."
"He bloody called her husband," Joshua slurs. "That bastard is probably hurting her right now. Duncan, please let me kill him." Joshua reaches down to his boot and I know what's coming next.
"Not happening, Bossman, come on, let's leave before they call the coppers." I reach down and bat Joshua's hand away from his boot knife. I grab him away from Raul and throw him over my shoulder, wrapping an arm around his legs so he can't move around.
"You hurl down my back and I'll drop yourarse," I tell him. "Come on, Maya, baby." I reach for her hand with my other hand, glare at the bastard, and pull her out the door. Raul is pulling up the rear.
"My car is around the corner, you got him?" Raul asks.
"Not a problem. I'll take my turn. What set him off?"
"I pulled his GPS earlier when Ian called and I found him in the neighborhood. He was following some skirt, and when she got in a taxi, he went into the pub and proceeded to get shit-faced. I stayed in the background until the bastard told him something and he went after him. I called you as soon as I could. Sorry to ruin your night."
"Not a problem. By the way, this is my girl, Maya Aaron." I introduce them and she shakes his hand. He helps me load Joshua into the back of the Rover. I open Maya's door and she gets in and turns around to look at Joshua, who's now passed out. He's mumbling in his sleep about Angel.
"Oh my God," Maya says from the passenger seat.
