"Because of this. I didn't want you to worry. It’s only been flowers and a few notes. The other one started just after we met the first time. He broke into my condo and took pictures of me while I was sleeping."
"What? Two?"
"Yeah, two."
"Is this why you have a BAU case? And an FBI alert?"
"You know about those?"
"Bloody hell, woman. Yes, I know."
"Greg has had a friend with the BAU keeping a watch on everything for years. Nothing was serious until June when they determined it was two of them. The newest one is more serious, that's why I need to leave."
"What notes? And you are not leaving here. This building is more secure than any hotel."
"Don't worry. Greg, Derek, and I have it under control."
"I'll bloody worry. Now bloody hell, tell me what's going on. This is far from under control based on that picture."
"We have a dinner to go to. We can talk about it later. Derek is having a team go to my condo now."
"I'm telling Joshua tonight. Timothy can look at some security feeds and find something your team can't."
"Duncan, I can take care of myself," I snarl. I won’t let him run my life.
"You're my woman, I'll not allow anyone to hurt or scare you."
"Duncan, stop now." I'm huffing.
He stalks toward me and pushes me into the glass wall of windows behind me that overlook London. I'm instantly turned on by his aggressiveness but also angry because he's pushing me around.
"Baby, I can't control your job, but I can control this. I'll prevent you from getting hurt. I'll be talking with my team. And you will be staying here. Got it?"
"Yes, Duncan." He's right, another set of eyes can't hurt. Greg has had a team on it for years and nothing has ever been found.
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
DUNCAN
As we head down to the Rover her cell rings with the popular American song “Bad Boys,” and I smile as I help her in. I watch her answer and she bristles. I nod and she nods back, so I set the phone up to connect to the Rover’s Bluetooth.
"Derek, do you want to repeat what you just said?" She looks nervously at me. I wonder what she's thinking.
"Am I on speaker phone now?" a male voice answers back.
"Yes." Again, she looks at me nervously.
"There was a note with all the roses. It said, ‘Ninety-nine roses because I'll love you for the rest of my life. You will never be rid of me. I've watched men come in and out of your life for years. He is just another that I will control or get rid of too. You're mine. I'll possess you like I wanted to possess her.’” He pauses so we can absorb it. "No prints, no images from the cameras, and nothing from cameras in the neighborhood. I'mhaving the security system set to do a rolling passcode. I called Dad and told him. He's pissed. He's having SSA Jones called in with his team. He's even threatening to have you moved into protective custody. Maya, this is out of control now. Keep my sister safe, Duncan. I'll kill anyone who hurts her." He'll kill? Sister?
"I'll keep her safe. Who the bloody hell is this?" I growl back at him.
"I'm her partner, Derek. She and I have been close for many years. My father and I would go to the ends of the world to save her. Maya, sexy, please be safe. I'll continue to run searches. I need to go. I'll call in a couple of days."
"Bye, Derek. I'm sorry," she murmurs. She turns to look at me with a look of guilt. "He's staying at my condo. I've known him for years, and like he said, we're like brother and sister, nothing more. He and his father are like my family. Okay?"
"Okay for now," I growl at her.
This jealousy I feel when another man says he cares for her bothers me. I've never been like this with any woman. I'm protective of my sister, but the thought of this man calling Maya sexy makes me want to rip his tongue out of his mouth.
